P-1B Visa for USA...application process

We are in discussions at the moment with a USA promoter with a view to doing an 8 date tour of USA next spring.
I'm assuming I would need a P-1B visa to go.
Have any of you ever had a P-1B USA visa?
How painful is the process of getting one?
How much is the process likely to cost?
How long does it take?
Am I correct in my assumption that this is the visa I need to tour USA?

Expect an Embassy/Consulate visit where they grill you as if you're already the poster boy for Al Qaeda! Aside from that - apply WELL in advance of your trip (10-12 weeks) and don't be surprised if there are admin errors, particularly Stateside. The Visa interview also costs money - I think it is currently around £130.

This complicates the process, but if you don't mention it, they will find out anyway and then you'll be declined.
