But is there a way to turn off the automatic 'follow this topic'?

I've had a poke around but unless I'm missing something, I can't find it.

I sometimes comment on a thread but it's a throwaway and I'm not interested in getting the emails of further messages....

Isn't it in Notification Preferences? I have mine set to 'None' so I don't get any emails at all but you can decide whether to have a summary email sent daily or weekly.

Could be wrong, but I see 'Follow this topic' top right of first comment....And if you wish to unfollow it at a later date there's 'Unfollow this topic'

Easy.

1) Click on you name at the top RH side of the screen.
2) A dropdown menu appears - select 'My Settings'.
3) A new screen appears - look at the LH side of the page and select 'Notification Options'.

I think the option you want is to uncheck the first box (Auto follow topics I reply to).

Thanks all - it wasn't how to turn off notifications for each post, as I know how to do that, it was more turning off the auto follow feature as I rarely remember to go in and switch them off!
