So my parents split up a couple of years ago and my mum is only just buying a new house so that me and my sister can stay there (it's a long story, in short our house was on the market for ages and only now is it all sorted). Basically i'm looking at a new cheap but cheerful rig for my mum's house, i've decided i want a squier VM jazz bass or a cheap mexican jazz off ebay for roughly the same price.

Now i'm still not sure what to get amp wise. I must stress, this will NOT, nor will it ever be a gig rig, just a bedroom practice/occasional jam with friends rig. So i was looking at an orange crush 35B, i know orange make awesome amps, and at £120 with a 12" speaker and the cool orange vinyl it looks like a sweet deal, does anyone have any experience with them?

Also can anybody reccommend me any other nice combo amps (preferably not smaller than 10", 12" is preferred though) for up to £130? cheers.

You can pick up a new Line6 Lowdown 110 for around £150, and secondhand ones pop up in the for sale forum here! An excellent practice amp, and really small (12" x 12" x 12") I'm very impressed with mine.

You can get a really wide range of sounds out of it, from a sort of clean acoustic bass vibe to a full on overdriven/distorted sound. Comes with a compressor and synth bass FX. Really good at low to medium volume, although I haven't cranked it up I lent it to a friend to play in a medium size Church setting and she said it really held its own (although being a Church they weren't playing at ear-splitting volumes!)

You've obviously seen the makers blurb? - http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info_LDSTUDIO10.html

Worth waiting for a previously loved one to pop up IMHO.

+1

Can't fault mine - sounds very impressive for such a tiny bit of kit. It's handy that it's got an mp3 player input too - sound quality's decent enough to use instead of a regular stereo if cost cutting is the order of the day.

bit thin on the ground but you can pick them up for around £100 new and s/h - you already like the ashdown tone; this gives loads!
