Search Engine Aggro

Hi all

I used the search engine to find a post I looked at last night, but the search engine didn't find it. I've now manually scrolled back through 26 pages and found the thread.

Just to try it out, I entered the exact thread title into the search engine, using capitals where they appear in the thread title and any additional marks, commas etc.

Guess what ? came back as no result, despite the thread being the very last thing I looked at.

Anyone else experienced this ?

I just chose a phrase from a General Discussion topic.

If I just typed it into the search box and clicked the button, I ended up with a few results, but not the one I was looking for.

I then tried it in the Advanced Search, gave it a clue (i.e. look in General Discussion) and it found the post.

So... the 'plain' Search doesn't work particularly well as it has a limited criteria to search by, but the 'Advanced' one (with an extra 'clue') seemed to work well enough.

When this kind of thing happens, I tend to use Google. For example, Googling:

site:basschat.co.uk "flying monkeys"

...will return every instance of Flying Monkeys.

This method has the added bonus of ignoring all the nonsense in Off Topic, too. :)

Clearly flying monkeys are not nonsense then ;)

The search feature doesn't work properly, for me, on the mobile site (iPhone).

When I select a forum to search, then press 'done', the 'search in forum' reverts to blank.

Noticed this a while ago, and seeing this thread just prompted me to mention it...
