I've heard you can get a mic attachment for the newer iPods which is pretty decent for that kind of thing.. Have used that set-up many times and the overall sound is highly credibleand useful for listening back to a performance (although not good enough to release commercially - unless Jaco is on it, then you can release ANYTHING, however crap it sounds). Many of these recorders only have 1 or at best 2 mic inputs so the 4 inputs gives you an extra level of control. The MR8HD has a hard drive for storing data. There's also a cheaper [url="http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/shop/view_product.php?product=fosmr8mk2"]Fostex MR8 Mk2[/url] that uses Compact Flash cards instead, but is otherwise the same machine. It seems to cope with all sorts of levels thrown at it, and the clarity is amazing for what it is. I'll see if I have any clips at home and post an example.
