Hi, I'm about to get a white squier vintage modified vi (present from the wife) but of course have to wait for delivery...I have the chance of a black one immediately.
Either way I want to change the scratch plate to a 3 ply black\white\black.
Any one know of anywhere I can get one?
I had a custom mustang scratch plate made by bass doc and it was lush-it absolutely finished my project to the higehest standard. does anyone know if he still produces single plates on request?

Many thanks

Karl

I got my black pearl one from this guy: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-VM-Bass-VI-Pickguard-4-Ply-Aged-Pearl-/321269875583?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4acd2d437f

Google Jack's Instrument Services. He's based in Manchester, and has a very quick turnaround for scratch plates and truss rod covers. He made a replacement TRC for my Rockinbetter bass, and is currently making a TRC and new scratch plate for my Jolana bass to be fitted after some other work on it.

Get in touch with The Bass Doc from this very manor, famed for his custom pick guards, amongst many other things ;)

+1 for The Bass Doc.

He's made me replacements for a Shergold i had and for my old VOX and he always does a superb job.

Thanks all. I've made contact with the doc and picked up a new batch black vi from the local(ish) music store yesterday even though nowhere else had stock til mid Jan earliest.

Not only that the store had a special on purchases over a certain amount so I got a further 10% off the normal price-meaning my wife was £30 better off once she canceled the order through Dawson's.

I played one when they were first released and was not impressed....it buzzed all over the place, finish was so so and the floppy E string kept falling off the neck!

This one was so much better...better spaced strings over the pickups, barely any buzz fret and strings felt like they had better tension.
Set up was still toffee mind but I always reset up and as I wanted to swivel bridge around and replace the scratch plate I was going to end up semi dismantling anyway!

I was about to post the same thing today. I ordered my black Bass VI today so it is turning up on tuesday, so I need to get a black pickguard too. Maybe there is a time for a batch order of these things!
I saw the guy in the states too, it seems there are a lot of companies doing them in the states, but not many in the UK.

That's because there are a lot more Bass VIs in the U.S. than there are in the U.K. :)

I would have thought with the difficulty in getting them here, there must be a few, and considering what awful colours they come in, there must be a big market.
Didn't the squiers turn up here first anyway? I know if you look on the net there are stories of usadians getting them imported from here last year.

I also meant general pickup cover places anyway, there are a lot of US pickup cover places in the states, but there don't seem to be any here.

Yes we did have the Squier VI here first but they are are now plentiful in the U.S.

I doubt if many were imported into the U.S. from these shores due to the much higher price they are in the U.K. I can't see many of our friends over the pond splashing out about twice the price (when you include shipping and duties) for one than it was over there.

They are approximately £275 over here so with shipping and tax it would be well over £400. Currently you can buy one in the U.S. for £200-£220.

The amount of guitar and bass sales in the U.K. is tiny compared to the U.S. so i suppose that is reflected in the amount of outlets selling after market parts for guitars and basses.

Not sure why they would do it, but saw a few people did on one of the us forums. I guess some people are pretty impatient!

I can't believe it is tiny though. Every town has a guitar shop, most people have a guitar somewhere, and our population is a fifth of theirs.

Put it this way, my wife runs a shop that specialises in pet rats. It used to make what would be considered a full time living, it still does ok but not as well as there is now a lot of competition in the marketplace, with at least 5 other shops doing similar things.
I would say there are more guitars than pet rats, so it surprises me there isn't at least one online shop selling pickguards. I am sure someone could get by doing that.

Shame I have no talent in that area, I could do another online shop, it would just need a digital bandsaw and a load of templates!
