OK I have spouted off about how wonderful these basses are in other threads and there is nothing that I would retract from that. However, I have been finding the transition from the spacing/neck width of my 'go to' fretless to the Lakland a little awkward and have bought another bass that makes this transition much easier and comfortable for me. So the Lakland now has to go to help finance the recent purchase :( The range of tones from this bass are amazing, P, J and MM are all there (or pretty much thereabouts anyway) and I have had many compliments about the tone that this bass achieves live; my drummer loves the sound of this bass and is mourning the fact that it has to move on. But move on it must, so without further adieu I give you.......

It is in great condition apart from a couple of the usual swirls on the back, and this on the neck. I thought this may have happened at a gig, but it may have been there when I bought it. The only reason I became aware of it is that when I took it off its wall hanger one day, holding it around the 12th fret, I felt a little something. I never noticed it playing it and still don't, but I need to point it out. It was hard to get a photo of it, so I've enlarged the picture.

It comes with a good quality hard case

It weighs around 8lbs according to the bathroom scales at Ez Towers and has 19mm string spacing. It has had the usual Lakland PLEK setup to the neck and has the Lakland/Hanson preamp and pickups.

£750 to you lovely lot (no trades I'm afraid) collected from Ez Towers in Purley, Surrey. I will meet up 1/2 way at a reasonable distance, or send if really required (I prefer not to) but I would really rather buyers come and try it out, I do a mean tea & coffee into the bargain (or at least so my feedback says).

C'mon you know you want to ;)

5502's are great, versatile, basses, that pickup config with the coil-split switch on the MM is hard to beat. I'm not normally keen on sunburst but this one looks a stunner with that nice grain underneath. Can't really justify another one so I won't be buying, but have a bump on me.

Not to hack your thread or anything... but that's a rather nice hardcase. What make is it?

Good bass btw.
I'm not sure, but it sure is sturdy, with a well finished interior and robust hardware; it's made in Canada.

I'm picturing that with an ebony, unlined fretless fingerboard.
Ooh that'd look great! Not to detract from the awesomeness that is my mighty Lakkie of course :D

How far north?
Hmm something wrong with my notifications as I've only just seen this and I have been checking. A bit late now, sorry, but I'm up in Scotland, I didn't bring the bass as I hadn't seen any new posts and the car was a bit full :(

Beautiful beautiful bass... and I don't normally like sunbursts and I much prefer maple fingerboards, but this one made my heart skip a beat :gas:
Also, having just bought a 55-02 (natural/maple) myself, I know just how nice and versatile these basses are... have a free bump :)

 • 2 weeks later...

I have been asked a question regarding the overall length of this bass; I can confirm that it is 116.5cm from the tip of the headstock to the base in line with, but not including, the strap button.

amazing that it took so long!

I'm loving mine... I still have not used it live (still not 100% with the 5-string thing, so it's been the 4-string Stingray exclusively), but I used it at rehearsals, where it does not matter if I hit the wrong string at times... and it sounds amazing. Very nice "fat jazz" vibe out of the bridge pickup on its own.
It was quiet for a bit but there's been a sudden flurry of interest, post New Year thing I guess, I'm not complaining though as I'll be sorry to see it go.
