I'm not sure what you mean by a "real band"? Ok I'll give you 1D but McFly are a boy band are they not and they play their instruments, which seems to be your definition of a real band.

If this had the level of production that One Direction has, it would sound infinitely better. Sounds better already. Does make you wonder - why does it sound better?

i think it shows that music is music. it'a series of notes. But the problem with so much of today's music is all the guts and soul has been sucked out of it in an effort to achieve some assembly line, homogenous pablum that industry people think is the safe way to go.
