Well , the medieval headless pewcore is up now , just in time because the 'studio' refurbishment starts this coming week , well , decorating the playroom , but I hope to formalise a bit more studio-ness into it . A family effort this week :) , I hope you enjoy.

^ Nice one Lurks! I've only had a quick listen on my phone but I have to commend Lurksalittle on the vocal. Very good indeed.

To everyone else (myself included): don't forget that the deadline for entries is this Saturday. Well... it'll be whenever I get up on Sunday, fix breakfast for Mrs Skol and Junior, slug a coffee and get on the computer. So latecomers probably have a window of opportunity until Sunday morning ;)

Cheers Skol , her voice needs a bit of firming up , but I didn't give her enough takes really , It is quite an eye opener when you realise the concentration it takes for someone to hear a melody learn the words and fit them in to the tune , its one thing to sing along to a song , another learning an existing song, but when you start from scratch it takes soooo much more effort , if I allow for that next time, we should have even better results.
I have gone along with the idea that the song 'just' needs a vocal , while it was brilliant when the bands singer did it for the blues song I did , I now realise it requires a LOT more planning for a 13 year old girl to do it .

...and on that note , she has a new app on her ipad which is effectively a midi programmer , a real doody thing where you just draw or write on the screen and the app just plays through where the writing covers the notes , incredible bit of kit , to the extent that she is mumbling about entering the competition herself next time :o

Here's my entry. It's rather basic and still very much at ideas level but I simply don't have time to do anything with it. I have modified the lyrics but I don't have time to record them. Anyway I like it and think it is worth entering so hear it is.

Ok I'm done.

Great picture from Zenitram this month, which fired me up for something on a spooky/horrific theme. I'm a big fan of horror movies and wanted to experiment with some of the tricks used in my favourite soundtracks of the genre - things like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (bloody bonkers), The Omen (choirs don't get much creepier) and pretty much anything by John Carpenter (Halloween is a good example)… with a big dollop of metal thrown in for good measure ;)

It all ended up being a bit messy - and quite a step removed from the picture, if I'm being honest (which perhaps conjures up more of a Hammer Horror or M.R. James style of spookiness, rather than where I ended up). But heh.

Lots of crazy synth programming and liberal use of copyright-free samples to weave the 'story'. The bass is all mine; the guitars are a mix of my own playing smothered beneath programmed MIDI lines to help keep the timing tight (I'm no guitarist).

Please note: this track contains swearing. Nothing especially offensive, but a dose of the S-word right at the start. It's also perhaps not ideal for younger listeners. Rated 15, or thereabouts!

Well done to everyone who entered this month. I'm looking forward to listening to them all over the next week.

Cheers :drinks:
