How do I get a Dubstep/Drum N' Bass Sound

All right this genre may not be popular around here, but I'm really interested in getting that sound of an electronic bass sound. Yes, I know there are synth pedals, but they sound really cheesy and from the 80's. I want it too sound deep and rich to give that feel of Dubstep or Drum N' Bass and the overdrive/distortion pedals are too much and too high. I know about the hot hand and I'm not really interested in the wahs or doing stuff like Skrillex but stuff like Pendulum instead. The main reason is that I just want to something different as I like to do different things alot on my bass, whether one minuet I'm playing some Brit rock, the next metalcore so to add a whole load of electronic genres would be cool. To get that sound would be great as I could play lots of different stuff and experiment more and play stuff from more bands like Pendulum and Hadouken! but also stuff from bands that don't even use a real bass like Modestep and Chase & Status. So just the plain clean simple sound instead please. Here are three good examples of what sound I want to get...

Hadouken - Rebirth (Starts at around 2:00)
This is the sound I would most like out of all of them, it is the perfect example. It keeps that Drum N' Bass feel but uses a real one! Not a phoney synth one!

Enter Shikari - Arguing With Thermometers (The is different pedals used in this but the sound I'm interested in starts at 1:25)
I liked this one from hearing it and I think it is really good and it has a similar sound to it, but it is more Dubstep, but I do like a bit of diversity.

Pendulum - Tarantula (There is a regular bass at the start then there is a synth one later starts at around 0:50)
I think this is played by using a synth one (or it was created by using one, they play it more rocky libe to be fair though) but it is still a cool sound in my opinion and I want to do it

The first two defiantly use real basses as I have seen them live and I'm not to sure about the second one, I don't think it is as I think is uses a synth bass but I can still play it with my bass right now.

Any advice on how to achieve this would be great as I don't have much knowledge on pedals whatsoever, but I know a combination of them is needed, but which ones?

Thanks very much :)
Ciaran

Is this what you're looking for?

Not really. I'm not into all that wahs and stuff to be fair even though it is a pretty cool device. The tone is not quite right too, it needs to be gritty and low. This sounds cheesy in my opinion and is not quite the sound I'm looking for.

Thanks any way

Here you go, 30 pages of discussion covering everything you want to know - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/72012-drum-n-bassdubstep/page__hl__dubstep

Get reading!

As a side note - Enter Shikari. The bass player plays clean bass only. No effects at all. All the Dubstep stuff is done with a computer and synth by Rou. Disappointing!

Stuff like a nice gated synthy fuzz (iron ether oxide/mxr blowtorch etc) with something like an OC2 (or in my case - oc3 in oc2 mode) in front of it.

Then play quite high on the fretboard. You'll get a fair few responses, theres quite alot of organic bass wobblers on here. Take a look at the OBW facebook also.

I'm not sure if he does anymore. When they played Aberdeen he was using a HotHand, and using fx.

Strange.

Thanks for that. I have a good read about it :)
Yes I also know about Shikari playing playing clean notes except for this song! I know as it is in numerous live video as Rou (Vocals and electronics) is away from his gear when the breakdown starts.

I was thinking that, but I wasn't sure it would work. I'll guess I'll have to do some investigation into that when I get some money!

In about 10 years, when you have finished the 30 pages of that thread, you can also glance at this - http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/blog/signal-chain-bassics-part-iv-filters.html - An article I wrote about filters and how they work. It covers some details and examples of envelope and Low Pass Filters, which will form the core of synth tones and Dubstep wobble.

Maybe he upped his game. I saw them from the upper circle last year in Manchester so could see down on the stage and while the guitarist had a killer board, the bass player had nothing but a tuner. About time he dabbled more!

I swear I have seen videos of Chris even doing a wired dance to Arguing With Thermometers to the DubStep bit! Well you have seen them more recently than me so you would be a master. I'm also a fan of those pits! :D
