Does opening the gate mean letting the sound you want through, or does it mean that the gate effect will start? i want to set up a gate to stop squeals and feedback for guitar (sorry). what settings should i start off with? ta. tonyquipment Posted January 30, 2013 Share Posted January 30, 2013 Just set the threshold of the gate to activate at the desired level. It will open (let sound through) when you are playing but as soon as the sound level drops below this threshold, it will stop noise coming though. paul_5 Posted January 30, 2013 Share Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) There's an easier way to stop squeals on a guitar: Turn your guitar volume down, stand in front of the guitar amp and keep turning the 'gate' level until the guitar only makes a noise when you hit the strings REALLY hard. What you need to do next sounds a bit odd, but bear with me. Turn the 'gate' level up gradually until the guitar doesn't make any noise at all - ideally the 'gate' level will be at maximum by the end of this step.
