Mid 90's "Squire" Japan Jazz Bass for £220 B.I.N.

Recommended Posts

I just bought one of these silver series Squiers in original condition and it's a very nice Jazz bass.
Lightweight, with a deep tone, vintage frets and a joy to play.
I don't think there's any catch - it's been stripped and a pick up replaced.
The price seems reasonable enough if everything else is ok.

edit - just noticed the grounding strip to the back pup is missing.

Alarm bells if you ask me. At the least that it's been tampered with way too much and at worst it's a fugazi. The neck sure seems kosher but the body's either been severely manhandled or it ain't it! :-/

I think it's just that the body has been sanded which is putting people off. It looks like it's a Silver Series and although they are made of good quality wood it's close grained and doesn't look very pretty when sanded. The grounding strip is missing which means it will probably buzz a bit but is easily fixed by fitting a brass strip from the bridge to the rear pickup shield. The only thing that would put me off is that the rear pickup has been changed and as far as I'm concerned the pickups are the best thing about the Silver Squiers.
