GK MB500/Fusion

Does anyone know of any GK stockists in or between MK and Birmingham? The GK website only mentions Polar Audio and googling music shops in those areas doesn't pull up anyone who stocks GK, unless I've missed them.

I want to try either a 500 or a 500 Fusion to see what they are like as I really like the idea of a high output amp in a diddy case. My ultimate aim is to get a Barefaced cab to match the GK, but that can wait until I actually have need for it.

In the meantime, should I like and buy the amp, which cab would go with it as a stop gap before/if I get my Barefaced?

Both amps are very good - I`ve had both - the MB500 being very crisp and GK sounding, The MB Fusion sounds GK-like, but in the mix it is much thicker sounding.

Re cabs, it depends on what sound you`re after, if crisp and punchy the GK MBE or Neo cabs have a good rep, and the Hartke Hydrives also sound nice with these amps. If wanting a thicker more old-school sound, I`d look at Ampeg/Trace. The best cab I used with the MB500 was a Peavey 410 TVX, got that great Duff McKagan sound, but them Peaveys are heavy!!

But I`m sure Bass Direct will have an array of cabs to try out, if you decide to go there.

Im not sure Mark deals with GK any more, the GK section was removed from the site a month or so ago.

If you've ever likely to be up in North Yorkshire you can try my GK MB Fusion and Barefaced Compact. I've also got a Trace Elliot 15" cab which works very nicely with the GK (I'll be selling in a couple of weeks when my Compact No 2 arrives - probably for £100 - pm me if interested). Its Lozz's old MB Fusion I've got and his description of the sound is accurate - they're fantastic amps.

I'd love to, but North Yorks is a long way from Northampton to try a rig Having said that, we are going to be in Brid sometime, not sure wifey would approve of a diversion

Or even go to DV247 in Barnet. About an hour/hour and 15mins from Northampton - ring them before, and if they don`t have them in, they usually are happy to get them across from another store.
