I'm not a massive regular on this forum but I really need some advise/help

I'm trying to find the right parts to put together basically a Fender road worn 60's jazz with a maple neck plus pearl binding & block inlays

My first option would be:
To get a RW 60's jazz and swap the neck with this allparts neck. Obviously this is pretty danm costly thing to do..

My next option would be:
To buy this from ebay. Wether it's actually a genuine fender body I have no idea. What do you reckon?
I would bolt the above neck on to this and get some nice hipshot tuners (obviously I would find some where to get this all relic'd to match)

I could even go about getting the body from Warmoth?

I was also really digging the sound from the american special jazzes tone (another thing this ebay shop sells) here and was considering getting the black road worn body they sell here
again I have no idea about the authenticity of these parts

Some help would be great or maybe some other better suggestions?

Cheers

You may as well just advertise for the bass you want on here because once you've bought the body (remember customs charges when parts come through heathrow from the states) and neck it's going to cost you over £1,000. If you've got a grand to spend I'm sure somebody on basschat could oblige you by selling you their bass. Or alternatively you could buy what you want new or secondhand from Ishibashi in Japan who sell Japanese Fenders. I don't think you can buy Jap Fenders new straight from Japan because of the agreement Fender has with the factories out there but you can buy them secondhand http://translate.goo...2F04-05%2F3%2F1

I'm just after something that will result in a solid work horse

If that's all you need then walk into the nearest guitar shop and pick up a mexican Jazz or even a Squier you like the look of. This forum is awash with stories of people (myself included) successfully gigging low-rent basses . Of course there are even USA jazzes second hand on here for the price of a premium build.

If you want something that you build yourself and becomes your baby, but styled after a particular bass, then as Mr. Foxen says, don't worry about authenticity, but quality of parts.

I do happen to own a loverly squire VM jazz that I love. I basically want something thats going to sound great and look just how I want it too (don't we all?)
I'm not bothered what it says on the head stock as long as it's got 'my' sound and has the style I'm after I'll be extremely pleased. Obviously this wont be a cheap project but I'm trying to find one of the cheaper routs to take for it

Buying bits of basses from Stratosphere or warmoth can be very expensive and although you'll get your ideal bass you'll never get that money back if you ever decide to sell.

As far as Japanese basses are concerned.....

This guy imports them for you http://www.guitar-emporium.co.uk/Fender_Japan_JB.html

And this guy too http://www.mijfenders.com/ I have a friend who bought a tele from this seller and he has a lot of guitars in stock which he doesn't have on his website. Worthwhile calling him and seeing if he can supply you with what you want.

Ishibashi have english speakers you can communicate with via email and their customer service is, I've heard, very good. So it's not as scary as it may seem. Search for ishibashi on this forum and hear some stories of people who have dealt with them.

Cheers for all the help, I'm not sure of the the suggest sites you have linked me to have what I'm looking for.. I don't think fender have ever made a fiesta red jazz with a maple neck/board with pearl binding and block inlays - Some one correct me if I'm wrong (probably am)

Eh, probably not. Good luck on your search.

It's worth picking up a used Mighty Mite neck too - I put one onto a cheap fretless body and it's transformed the whole instrument - sounds incredible now. They occasionally pop up on here for round about £100 and are well worth the money.

IF you already have a Squier VM you'll know the necks are pretty good for the money. You could stick a Squier VM neck on a Mex or US Fender body, or even just upgrade your Squier to the spec you want.

If you want something that looks and feels like a 60s Fender but is a solid workhorse you shouldn't be looking at a blocks and binding neck - thats the 75 reissue neck!

There are loads of places who supply 60s Fender Jazz-a-like parts in the UK. I just got hit with a customs bill for the genuine 70s body on my bitsa. To be honest with all the money I've spent on making it I could have bought a 100% genuine mid 70s Jazz Bass, which would be worth what I paid for it - although mine is actually nice to play and my main gigging bass :)

If you just like the look and you want something really solid, allparts and warmoth builds are quite popular, but you will never get your money back and it will only be as well built as you can build it.

I say, for the money you'd be spending on all those bits, go get yourself a Fender reissue.

To be honest, I'm not to bothered what year the bass looks like it's from. As long as it has a fiesta red body and a maple neck with PEARL blocks and binding I'll be a very happy man. Might have settle for the 60's road worn series. Shame it's not go the neck I want :P
