Yep.. i know this a very subjective question... but what i think comes close, is a bass line that does everything required, in a balanced way, to compliment the chords/rythm/song but show the players own personality.. this Freddie Washington on his P bass is just groove central imo... i cant imagine someone playing a better line on this track.. subjective of course.. Great 80s bass line! Though probably divides BC users down the middle :D
Dunno if it's the kind of thing you're thinking of since bass is pretty central to the plot (though I think that PR song is similarly built around the bass/drum groove) but how about Mark Adams (Slave) on eg Stone Jam? He was a master of fat grooves with a prominent bass personality

Yeah.. can't say it's particularly this kind of bass playing that gets my juices flowing.. It'd be interesting to try and learn these tracks from a technical and general education point of view though, and I can appreciate that it's very good :)

Lovely! And this is why I just don't get it when people always state that slap requires a mid-scooped tone! No it doesn't!

This one is a bit more scooped - but then again it is a 'Ray...

Beautiful!

This is the bassline that made me think "oh, so a P-bass can sound great slapped after all!".
Very tasty line, one of my "jam standards".
