My lovely refurbed 6er

Picked it up about a year ago for £500, didn't know what it was. Turns out it's a Bass Doc creation with a Jim Cairnes neck, and for the money it was still fantastic. But I couldn't really get along with it. Previous owner hadn't really looked after it, and I couldn't get my head round the EMG electrics, not helped by my cat dragging it off the wall which sheared one of the concentric pots. It also looked like a bus had run over it, missed, reversed and tried again.

Anyway, finally got the funds together (gigs, new job etc) to get it sorted, so sent it in to Steve and Ryan at The Guitar Repair Workshop in Manchester, left it with them for getting on for a month, and it's now back :D

Had a John East fitted (something addictive about these!), full set up new strings etc, frets filed, levelled and dressed, and the black, plastic knobs switched for nice gold ones. Needless to say, it looks and sounds better than it ever has before.

Well worth the money :) Just need to respray the bridge, repolish and laquer the saddles as they're already tarnishing since I last did them.

Any "before" pictures, to complete the transformation? Looks very nice :)

I think the first pic with the black knobs was the "before" pic. I must say I do think the EMG knobs are pretty rubbish quality. They're like the cheapest knobs you could possibly get just so they can go "oh well it is everything you need!"

Ahh cheers guys, I'll get onto it tomorrow, hopefully have something better than an iphone pic for you. Still needs some more work on the aesthetics, but as far as sound and playing goes, it's virtually bob on. When the rotosounds on it die then it's getting a set of DR Hi-Beams - then I'll be laughing :)

Couple more things I want to do with it, as said the bridge needs respraying and the saddles really need a refurb too, but I'll wait for a restring before I do that job. Gold strap lock pins too, bold screws in for the control cavity along with gold tuners. All for some point in the future, I'm liking the gold / black / red theme though.

Saddles need polishing on a buffing wheel - that will bring them back up a treat. I would have the bridge stripped and powdercoated.

Yeah definitely :) Depends how much time it gets off work though, the poor buggers barely get any time to relax at the moment. Did some recording with it yesterday though, into the Trace head which was DId into the desk with a multicomp in between - no post processing need be done :)
