[/size] [size=4]I'm a Bass player, who enjoys playing as a way of escaping from the hum-drum of everyday life.. [color=#5A5A5A][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Past:- Traditional tutoring from age 7 in Violin and Piano (practical and theory); Grade 'A' Music GCSE.[/font][/color] [color=#5A5A5A][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]The first record I bought was a 12" vinyl of 'Something About You' by Level 42; after watching the video on 'Top Of The Pops' (I'm showing my age..); bought first Bass in 1990 - Aria Pro II - with first weeks wages £100 and taught myself by listening to tapes and watching TV - much easier now with internet tutorials![/font][/color] [color=#5A5A5A][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Formed covers band with friends I grew up with at local Church youth group; performed at wedding receptions; garden parties; local assembly rooms and developed into a reasonably good Bassist; recorded and produced short CD of (mostly) cover songs;[/font][/color][/size] [color=#5A5A5A][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Present:- Work & more Work, significant other, three young children, family life, mortgage, bills.. yep, not really enough time to do much.. except for odd one or two hours at peace with my gear in the garage.[/font][/color] [color=#5A5A5A][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Future:- Purchased low-mileage ADAT for £100 from a popular (?) auction site, and aim to record and produce a CD* of original demos; would also love to collaborate with other musicians and hopefully perform Live.[/font][/color] 2013: *MP3/WAV/Flac files probably.. joined soundcloud and wikiloops recently and set to swoop (?) on a focusrite 2i4 interface to record directly into my laptop... to share on the internet and see what happens! EskimoBassist Posted June 17, 2012 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Nice pedal selection - you may want to try the compressor before the octaver, could improve the tracking. Bert (BassTractor); loving the basses, and if I didn't like my JD's so much, then I would have all three of yours! question of personal taste I guess.. Eskimo Bassist: "[color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]compressor before the octave".. well, I've seen this debated on the forums, and tbh I've never been 100% convinced about the OC-2 - because of the tracking - but, it was one of the first pedals I ever bought (budget midi-bass anyone?), and obviously it does add a kind of synth-like 'growl' to the sound, which is one man's Meat and another man's Murder! I played a version of The Rolling Stones: 'Satisfaction' at a garden party a few year's back; doubling up with the guitarist, and it sounded really nice with it cranked right up! I've heard a guitar play though it, and I think that particular pedal sounds much better on that. I've watched other Octave pedal demos on the internet, and they are all pretty much the same; overall the OC-2 is no worse, and no better.. [/font][/color] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]As for the compressor.. I have the CS-3 on the board and it's staying at the END of the chain (for the time being). It does a job with not too much fuss, but it's quite noisy and I would like to try MXR's M87 @ Stompbox to see if it's worth the £££.[/font][/color] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Truckstop: Thanks for your welcome and comment(s) about the Volcano Red JD. It is a great color; has a low action.. and it's got history. The story goes that It appeared on the BBC day-time show: Pebble Mill from Birmingham during the 1980's and was loaned/played by 'The Shadows' bass player of the time. It ended up being sold through a shop in Southend, Essex and I picked it up for a few notes after that.[/font][/color] Jaydentaku: How is the MXR pedal? I bought it 2nd hand off the Internet, only a few weeks ago, and has the classic Wah-wah funk sound. It's low noise - I'm sooooo fussy - and most of all, it is GREAT FUN to use. Highly recommended. Well, it's gone extremely quickly.. but the chance to post on a forum and share knowledge and experience has all been VERY positive! JD porn anyone? (I've even bought the polo shirt) OK. I've picked up a bass again; after a 10-year break. Started practicing twice a week. bought a usb/audio interface; recorded! a new track and released it on the internet; got a sound cloud account; started a FB page and an internet blog.. changed all the strings on my basses.. organised my gig bag! Effects: loads of my posts have been in this topic area. I love playing and enhancing my sound with these. The GAS has been terrible, but the tone print stuff by TC is just incredible! I'd never heard of them when I first started playing Bass in 1990. I will probably always have GAS. My pedal board has changed almost completely - but it's not lost it's soul; no, the BOSS OC-2 has survived! There is so much love for that pedal on BC, because it works. On the whole though, it has made me appreciate the stuff I have.... with the understanding that some change and the need for it is almost inevitable. ... but the main thing about being on BC has been the chance to listen and learn from some great musicians.. the monthly recording competitions are just one example of all the energy/creativity/talent that exists out there... So in life, when all the world wants to do is increase it's speed... I am thank full for music and the stage that BC gives us.. and to all you guys who contribute and make BC what it is - "Keep out of of treble".
