Compare with the taste and tone here:

I must have listened to that a thousand times, and it takes my breath away each time I hear it. Absolutely stunning track.

Well, I took that one hook, line and sinker (I blame the blue nun!).

To be fair it's probably the best 'shreds' video i've ever seen. It's only cause i'm familiar with his work that it had me rolling across the floor

That's actually an overdub, it's someone taking the piss

Yes, hilarious and very well done. Especially the dodgy cable connection stuff.
This however, is going much too far - totally unbelievable! ;)

This one's my favourite shred, shame about the poor quality video:

JP did more for bass playing than anyone period. He actually was an uncredible writer too love it when people analyze soething like this "oooh so and so is better technicallly or neater " yeah but he CREATED this. in the 70s. what were most bassists doing back then?

D'oh!

Jaco was an incredible bass player who really did change a lot. There have been a few others along the way as well but he certainly did a lot for pushing things forward. There may have been more technically competent bass players since but the fact he did it all first is very telling.

Thing with Jaco IMHO is that I don't really like his music. Not my style or groove at all. However, watching him and trying to play A Portrait of Tracy opened my eyes up to other techniques and sounds from my bass that my usual style of music doesn't give me.

A fascinating character and a useful source of leftfield inspiration.
