midi foot controller

Hmm, I'd like to make one of these, give it loads of flashing lights like a spaceship from a 70s sci-fi tv show and use it to control Ableton Live, Guitar Rig, Ampeg SVX etc...

I hope nobody posts a link with full instructions on this or else I'm going to be busy for a while!

Without sounding boring.. ok.. it's boring, the Behringer MIDI controller FCB1010 or whatever it's called, is actually rather good! My mates have toured theirs round the world and they still work fine for sub £100.

I use the Roland FC200 and it is brilliant! Also recommend the ART Ultrafoot and the Rocktron errrr.. board.. I can't remember what it is called!

A home made unit would be very cool though, for sure!

I found some cool stuff:

In Ableton Live, you can use a computer keyboard instead of MIDI to control pretty much anything, like trigger loops or turn FX on and off. Here's a project converting an old keyboard into a footswitch!

This dude made a very home made looking DIY controller:

MIDI Bass Pedal kit (Les Claypool style):

What do you want it to do?

I used to use a Tech21 MIDI Mouse. If all you want to do is step up & down patches its great. You have an up button, a down button, and a get ready button (the one in the middle that you click, then move to the channel you want, then tap again when you want to make the change.

The Behringer is not a lot more, so if you want more than the very basic functionality provided by the MIDI Mouse, that's probably a good bet, but otherwise if that is all you are after it's worth a look.

I use an MFC5, it's small and durable, plus Mario (the guy who makes them) is very helpful.

The downside is that he is based in the states so it might take a little while to arrive.

I also use a GRX4 Guitar Router (http://www.axess-electronics.com/sc/GRX4-Guitar-Router-Switcher-p-16135.html)

and a CFX4 Control Function Switcher (http://www.axess-electronics.com/sc/CFX4-Control-Function-Switcher-p-16136.html)

The MFC5 is phantom powered down the midi cable. All this controls my Aguilar DB750, Aguilar Agro, Tuner and puts various pedals (big muff, eq, sansamp) in and out of the loop. This means all my equipment now live in one rack, including all the pedals etc
