Ages ago I found a site listing some of the recorded serial numbers of MM basses including Cutlass I's and II's... http://www.musicmanbass.org/mycustompage0011.htm In respect of Cutlass I's it says... "It appears that the graphite neck was introduced late 1982 (per Oct 1982 catalogue) but not named "Cutlass 1" Bass until 1983. Kiwi Posted May 22, 2012 Share Posted May 22, 2012 I had one with a 1979 body. It was ex-Cliff Williams allegedly and recently swapped owners. I've not seen ANY neck dates earlier than 1983. So pop yours open and look for the hand written date on the heel in black marker pen, it'll help put us out of our misery. BTW - through body bridge Mystic and three bolt neck. [/quote] I wrote to someone, asking the price on this type of guitar, and apparently the price has dropped. I'm surprised because I thought this type of guitar would be in demand? I guess the 3 bolt neck isn't so rare. Not sure I want to sell it now, considering I wouldn't get as much as I originally paid for it. Disappointing. My luthier did a little fret job on both few month ago, especially on the 15 and 16th fret. I will try to set up the II with TI flat wound just for fun... Yes, I have a Cutlass I serial no B022503. I got it new. Our manager got it from Manny's, probably 1984 ish. Together with the fretless Stingray it's still my main bass today. It's newer than the one at the top of the page as it has 4 bolt plate and doesn't have thru body strings. I remember FGTH having one too, a hired one I believe. I also have a fretless Stingray, an early one. Serial no B020639. I bought it in Camden Town in around 1982 for about £200. The guy in the shop said it was Boz Burrells. It sounds amazing, I love it and still gig with it. It's got a three bolt plate and through body stings. Black with ebony fingerboard. I have a hip shot on the bottom string.
