Cheap flats for a beater bass: Fender or Picato

well, as it says....although I'm an Ernie Ball man (flats and rounds) I'm not spending half the value of my bass on the strings for what will be my the car site beater bass...and besides it's good to try different things.

These, from what I see, are the cheapest at the 'respectable end' of the tightarse's flatwound market, I give you the US Fender 9050's and the Brit's Picato 766's....both around £16/17 a set, half the price of the EB Group 3's:

Picato: http://www.stringsdi..._strings_45_105_

Fender: http://www.stringsdi...5_50_100_55_105_

cheers guys

Why does no one ever consider Status Hotwires?
These extremely underrated flats are every bit as good as the usual expensive suspects and half the price (£14 for medium scale / £17 for long scale). I have a set on my Shuker '51 and they sing - I have TI's on other basses (which are ok like) but they sound flabby in comparison.

I actually like the Picato flat wounds! Regardless of the Price and have had several sets with no problems, in fact I am sure I have a set taken off a Spector Rebop if your beater bass has two a side machine head layout, then you can have them FOC,

Not to Hijack but if Iconic doesnt take these i will. Quite interested in a cheap set of flats myself, just to try them out, as i've never used them before, so this could be of use to me, and £16?! That's less than i pay for the rounds i use on my Squier!!

I'm with Dave, regardless of price aspects I really like the Picato flats more than a lot of the more expensive strings out there.
