Anyone got/played one of these ? What u think ?

I've got an itch for a fretless that needs scratching.

I had a cheapo for a little while many years ago, but had to bring it back to the shop cos the wiring was crap (feedback etc)

Now, there are a couple of things I'm thinking about. I fear that I may get board with it, so I'm not going to spend big money.
I also don't want to buy a ball of s*ite as that will defeat the purpose and it will defo get left in a corner.

Any thoughts on this ?

Pros- Price/Colour seems ok, Warranty, free delivery(or at least included) If I get board, it may sell relatively easily.

Cons- I've not played it and I would prefer if there were no fret lines (but I do like the little jazz neck)

Looking forward to a bit of help/recommendations on this folks. If anyone has a fretless 4 for sale, feel free to throw it into the mix.

Cheers.

I bought one from Peter Cook's a while ago for a friend, and I think the price was £230. I think they're excellent, if perhaps a touch heavy. The shop was very good in letting me try three at length before finally choosing the one with the most ugly body grain but most even-sounding fingerboard up the neck (the fingerboards are ebonol, not wood). Overall, I think they're a fine cheapo Jaco. Check out the Vintage Icon VJ96MR, too...

I owned one for a little while - it was extremely good and excellent vfm. Got rid of it as, at the time, I didn't see a use for a fretless other than spare room noodling.

Having said that, if the day came when I was looking for a fretless bass but didn't want to spend a lot of money, I'd get a second hand fretless SGC Nanyo Bass Collection - same sort of money but a much better quality instrument IMO. I guess it is down to looks etc at the end of it.
I've got a mint Squier VMJ fretless sitting in my mum's house in Dublin. Never gigged. I kept it there as a backup, but I've never needed it.

If you're interested, drop me a pm. I'll be down within a couple of weeks. :)
Hmmm, that may be an option. A couple of weeks tho

Jebus. I'm all over the shop on this one. :)

I'm now going to look at a Vintage V940FL tomorrow.

Seeing that the make seems 'relatively' well spoken of on here, I thought I'd have a scope.

Bass looks great and is active. Doesn't have the nice thin neck though. In fact, it looks even wider then my P.
I wonder do they use the same neck for their 5 string :) I can't find the neck dims anywhere online.

Anyhoo. its well priced so I might live with it. We'll see.

As usual the BC'ers here came up trumps with help as usual.

Thanks again folks.

B.

So the itch has been scratched. I bought the V940 FL.

TBH, the price was to good to refuse. Its not a bad bass and for the price, it will do the job just fine.
It was like it was just out of the box. Advertised as unwanted gift. A few hours played on it (max)

The neck is a little wider that my precision but not as thick. Build quality is average.

I should have bought a fretless years ago. It opens up a whole new world of sounds/techniques.

Naturally, I would have preferred to up the budget and get something else but this is a fine starter fretless.

:)
