CAVEAT EMPTOR REDUX

Hello everyone, this is the final chapter in the Caveat Emptor debacle of 4 months ago: Posted here as this was where it all started.

After being totally pee’d off with the outcome of the SWR transaction, I left the items in the office in the return packaging. Since then I have been overseas for a total of 11 weeks with a 2 week break in between returning last week and finally deciding to do something as I had just purchased Walbassist’s PJB 8B and had nothing to work it.

I called “The Gallery” as an accredited SWR Dealer, explained the situation could they effect a modification, the suggestion was I scrap it and buy a new one! Or check out SWR, a suggestion I should have followed up initially, but when you’re scunnered with something, you’re scunnered. I www’d SWR ascertained the UK distributors are Fender and e-mailed them (Fender). This was Thursday 28th July at 11:36, by 12:12 (same day) I had a reply from Matt Davey Service Manager Fender Musical Instruments GBI, with a sympathetic note and a laughably simple fix with photo’s. I thanked Matt for his prompt assistance. I had a long weekend booked hosting a family get together so nothing would get done until the next week.

On my return to work I enlisted the assistance of the IT man as he had some small screwdrivers and pliers to move a Jumper and change the voltage from 115 to 230. I took the casing off and just as the photo’s depicted there was the circuit with the Jumper sockets for 115vand 230V. The jumper was set to 115v as it said on the Tin (casing transfer) I moved it to 230v happy with my decision not to connect it to the mains as was initially suggested.

Today being a day of rest I decided to try out the SWR - PJB Rig …………..The SWR fired up and everything worked perfectly not only that but the PJB handled all the bottom end I could need, tried the Overwaters and of the two, the fretless sounded best, tried the Streamline, that barked back reminiscent of my old Trace rig and the Thumb 4 I have.

So there you have it, sorted after 4 months and many words on the subject. Thanks for all the input on this guy’s positive and negative.

I will donate to Basschat as I feel without the inherent help of the forum in letting me have a soapbox this Amp might have been scrapped and I would not have had the fun and pleasure of reading threads and comments as well buying gear. As it is since then I have bought and sold on the forum with seamless ease.

Thanks

A Happier Oldman

I appreciate what you're saying, but hindsight generally takes the form of 'If only I knew then what I know now.'

I seem to recall that people were suggesting you contact SWR all the way through the thread. I, for one, was a little puzzled why you didn't.

...until now, but it's all sorted and it's all good. :)

I went overseas again just after my return from holidays (75 days in all) and apart from 2 weeks in between and now have not been in a position to sort it. There is also the "Scunnered" Factor to contend with.
