Tuners for Squier affinity J-Bass & other modifications

Hi,

I have a J-Bass Squier affinity (bought in 2008 I believe), model Cort (ICxxxx) crafted in Indonesia. I did think about selling the bass, but I got a bit a "sentimental" as it's my very first bass, so I'll modify it instead as the bass itself is not bad at all :)

the tuners are definitely crap and I want to replace them (From the Squier Web Site, the part number of the tuners would be 006-2551-000).

My problem (and reason of my posting :)) is : what can use to replace the tuners ? I'm looking for tuners with the same positioning specs, I'm not filling like drilling in my bass. (I could not find the specs of the currents tuners  )

Beside, I'm planning to replace the bridge, the pickups, the electronics (keeping is passive) and having chrome knobs, all without modify the bass itself. I'm therefore taking advices about replacement part that I could find to improve the bass without modifying the bass structure itself.

thanks,

Chris

Considering this job myself on the Affinity neck on my Sue Ryder. TBH I'm going for standard open backs and having the peg holes drilled accordingly rather than looking for good quality closed backs with the guitar type pegs.

I'd agree the tuners are crap but while they don't hold tune for weeks at a time like on decent Fenders/MMs mine do hold out ok for a couple of sets through the night - if yours can manage that I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Mine can't hold more than 3 numbers :) they're pretty lose.
I'll have to really weight the modification, I'm not really a good handyman :) More a destruction man when it comes to this kind of works.
