waynepunkdude
Couple of questions 1. How many U? 2. I have 2 cabs rated at 200W @ 8OHM each will these be ok? 3. What's all that valve bias stuff about? Edited June 14, 2011 by waynepunkdude

The valve bias stuff is just a way of adjusting the voltage going to the output valves when they are at 'idle'. On the SVT I believe there are two little screws on the back panel and a set of 'traffic lights' to make setting it up easy and removing the need for amp techs to get involved. Once it's set it'll generally be OK to leave alone until the valves are changed.

gareth
you only have 2 and 4 ohm settings do not under-estimate the importance of biasing - get it wrong and the valves will blow - also the amp has a built-in valve protection system that will also close the amp down if something is wrong - in this respect some amps can be very very sensitive and be forever closing down former svt2pro owner - i emphasize the FORMER

This rule is fine for most solid-state power amps. valve amps are a different bag all together. If anything you're better off going slightly lower rather than higher impedance
wizbat
Congratulations on getting an awesome amp mate, take the wise advice and use 4 ohm cabs and enjoy! It,s worth getting a rack mounted fan at the rear to aid cooling and make sure the left side of the amp where the internal fan lives get plenty of ventilation as these cookies run hot. Great amps! I have 2 :-D

That one's designed to fit onto the subrails of a 10000 series HP rack and not into the cage nut holes that you'll (hopefully) have on the rear of a rack case. wizbat
Wow that ones got enough to suck the valves out and pebbledash the wall with them! I was thinking more along the lines of this.. From what I can remember, there's a couple of adjusting screw/pots round the back with 2 little pairs of lights (one red/one green) to help set the bias. If you're looking at a single cab, SERIOUSLY consider the Ampeg 410HLF. Massive sound from a single 4 Ohm cab. Great bottom end but real grunt and THE Ampeg tone. Not exactly a small 410 but not exactly a small sound either and TBH, you don't notice the weight/size as it's really portable with the wheels and handles. There's been a couple for sale recently for much cheapness! HTH Tony

waynepunkdude
It looks like the deal may have gone but never mind. I had a thought with that cab 1200W and my amp in bridged mono 1450W peak that would be a beast, I know it 250W over but would I ever get to the point of damage?
