Mr. Foxen Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 But they are so outside my previous experience, and I seem to be expected to learn it all by ear. The band is Mea Culpa Previously I've played chessy blues and 3 chord rock, generally covers where I can hit the tabs or chord chart up if I get stuck. Any tips? Quote
queenofthedepths Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Wow, lucky you! If you decide you don't wanna play for them, let me know I'd advise taking this opportunity to start learning things by ear - presumably they don't want you to play the bass lines exactly the same..? Quote
Shockwave Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Mea's looking for a new bass player? I never knew that, Maybe i should go for it Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 Not so sure they are actually actively looking as much as I already fix their guitars and get on with the guitarist, and play bass, so offered a tryout. Quote
Sibob Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Is that ex-Mydriasis James Cooke on vocals? He wanted to try out for us....then backed out lol Good luck dude, sound like an interesting band! Si Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted February 15, 2008 Author Posted February 15, 2008 Apparently no, just asked, he's been in foothold, map the stars and sightless riot. Quote
BassBod Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Not really my area, but I often get asked to learn stuff fast (or more often just make it up on the spot) Get recordings, (live is best) even if they're different to the current versions - ask for a list of what they really want you to know (a lot of bands only ever play half of what they could on gigs..). Make some notes on your "master list" about keys (tunings?) arrangements etc Don't worry about learning everything in detail, just rough out the whole lot and learn where the tricky bits are - you can get back to them, or fake your way thru for now. Your focus should be on learning the part, but mostly about how to fit into the band, that's what they want. If they're talking to you then your half way there....good luck, and hope you enjoy it.
