aren't j pickups supposed to humbuck? thats how we make single coils. just like a split humbucker.
...assuming they're both full on.

TNIT - I have Fralin split-coils on my J. They're virtually silent regardless of how the pups are balanced.

I say virtually, as I can still hear a little noise going through a monstrous FOH... but it's comparable to the noise floor of my P. i.e. negligible.

I tend to solo the front pup, although I've recently wired a series switch in there and I love it so I'm using that more often. Still getting some noise at home because the wiring here is lousy, will have to see how it sounds in a rehearsal room tomorrow but it's the pickups that are creating the noise.

Thanks for all the options so far I'll look them up. I was thinking about the DiMarzios already, but the Fralins sound like a good option.

I had the STK-2 in the bridge on my old Aerodyne. Hotter than the 1, but as said, silent and deadly.
