electricbear
Hello everybody. I have found a Yamaha BB Standard on Ishibashi Music and I am close to buying it. But I am hesitating beause I am not able to test the bass. So I wanted to ask if any of you has ever played one of theese and what you think of it. Thanks for your answers. This is what it looks like: http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/image/3268549012.jpg
gjones
I haven't a clue about that particular bass (but I used to own a japanese Yamaha BB something or other in the 90's and it was excellent quality) but one thing I do know is you'll pay about 30% duty when you import it into the country - which is what happened to me when I bought my bass secondhand from the USA. I just thought I'd make you aware of that if you didn't know it already. Edited February 19, 2011 by gjones
Lozz196
Can`t comment on that particular model, but I had a BB1100s in the late 80s, and it was my only bass for about 5 years, 500-plus gigs, and I never had even the slightest problem with it. Totally reliable, good to play, Yamaha make quality instruments.
TPJ
Again, I know nothing about that BB but I used a BB1600 for ages. Wish I still had it really. Played and sounded great, never let me down.
BB2000
I've played one. It has a warmoth neck, I don't know about the body. I preferred the BB1500A I used to have to this model. It is a good bass, but I wouldn't have paid the retail price for one (I think they were/are about £1000?).
Sean
Is there a link so we can have a look?

I can post a link to it, but you have to search the bass yourself, there are no unique links. http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/ On the left: just check E Bass , type Yamaha and then it is the first one. yamahabass
I have owned this bass. there are basically 2 versions, one is the standard the other is the deluxe. i think the main differences are the hardware is brass on the deluxe and also one is more handmade. the problem is this though: the body is really nice light Ash or Alder, but the necks are made by Warmoth and they weigh a ton! Its really heavy just because of the Warmoth necks, to the point of being unplayable. i would certainly try before you buy this particular model of bass because Yamaha make great stuff but the necks are Warmoth so ....... good luck! yamahabass
Go and have a look at Atelier Z or Moon , probably get better value for money.
