1.
Haha yeah - at least I think so. Does the guy from Chicago now play in a KISS tribute? I'm glad they had Primus otherwise I may have missed that one and I was bored of the slap players I heard in the late 80s but Claypool seemed to make it a bit more 'attitude' for me so it was a changer for me. Yes - an amazing bass, although I shoved another EMG in it to get more tone. Trouble is, I'm terrified to take it to a lot of gigs!!! I always wanted a Rick, but I don't do a gig where I could use it. It was the coolest thing though - all hail...Geddy Lee!!
I loved Les's bizarre style with the slap thing and the raking/strumming thing and tapping he did alongside it; yes, it was a fresh alternative to the more established old slappers like Mark King - but then I'm a massive Mark King fan too. Not surprised you feel uneasy taking the Carl Thompson out, but hey, get it out there and show people what it can do An amazing bass that needs to be seen (and heard!) I love Geddy's Rick tone, not to mention Chris Squier's too, and Bruce Foxton's and all the other great Rick players, but I've never really fancied one. Had a go of one years back and just didn't take to it
 2.
Cool!! Sadly after the bones gig I was still trying to work out if Primus was the best or worst band ever! It eventually sunk in that they were pretty important to the scene and very cool indeed. I totally loved his basses and took years to find out where to get one. I ended up getting one on the bay last year... I think Cetera has a wal geddy lee he had custom made; totally beautiful, check out his collection!
I'd got into the Primus stuff a bit before going to the Rush gig, so it was a bit of a double whammy for me. Did you get a Carl Thompson bass then?? Amazing looking things aren't they! Nice one.. As for Cetera, I'm assuming you mean a member on here and not Peter of Chicago fame Will check it out....
 3.
It's when you break down Geddy's playing that it becomes clear what a master he is. As good as it gets!
Couldn't agree more Chris and what a tone he had!!
 4. While we're on the subject, somebody just sent me this, check it out.... YYZ with the bass isolated YYZ bass It was posted on Rushisaband.com, along with other goodies Find them here: Rush oddities
 5.
you know he's changed side nowadays ???
Ah well, Alex will have to do
 6. Nice to see so many of the BC brethren will be worshipping at the altar of Ged Some great posts here... Very envious of Bassassin and seeing all those tours!! Amazing mate! Regarding Primus supporting on the 'Bones tour, I actually got to meet Les Claypool after the Wembley Arena gig! He was hanging around at the back of the venue wearing a cowboy hat, me and my mates just went over and said hello. Don't remember much of what he said apart from him saying that England was far too cold! Enjoy the gigs fellas!
 7.
Without a shadow of doubt. Hoping the O2 will sound better than Wembley has in the past. Tricky though with the amount of notes and the big sound for their mix to be perfect live, in every part of what is effectively a barn. It will be great though as always - my first gig I went to was them on the Hold Your Fire tour and that decided for me that I wanted to play bass! Still buzzing from that one:)
I saw them 19 years ago at Sheffield Arena and Wembley Arena, on the Roll The Bones tour. Was great to see them and all, but had pretty sh*te seats for both gigs. This year I'm making up for it, with seats in the 2nd row at Birmingham!! On Geddy's side of the stage too!Did the whole join the fanclub thing, to get the presale ticket notification and got up early on the day to make sure of good seats and it paid off Pricey? Definitely, but i reckon it's gonna be worth it The sound might be an issue, being so close to the stage, but it'll be payback for looking at three tiny little figures in the distance 19 years ago Nice one Steve, would've loved to see Ged with his black Wal
 8. Anyone else going to see Geddy next month? I'm going to the Birmingham show, got pretty decent seats too
 9. Got some Silvo wadding and it was just the trick Amazing how much crap actually comes off the frets!!
 10. Oh, how i'd love this!! No cash available, as ever, but bump for a great bass!!
 11.
I have used Brasso Duraglit Metal Polish Wadding for years on my basses. After polishing the frets with this I use a fretboard conditioner to feed the wood.
Ahhh, of course, Duraglit. I'll give it a whirl.... Cheers deano
 12. I've just noticed on my CV P bass, the last five frets or so have become discoloured, a sort of yellowish colour. I've hardly been playing the bass in the last few months and took it out to have a play on it and noticed the frets at the dusty end looking very dull. It almost looks like a sort of mild corrosion - Would've included a picture but it's very hard to get a detailed enough shot... Anyone else noticed this on theirs?? Mine's the fiesta red one, about a year old, dunno if that matters mind you... Can anyone recommend anything to clean up the frets nice n shiny? Cheers Bob
 13. Did somebody call my name?? With reference Andy Rourke, i play in a Smiths tribute and have looked into this a bit but I'm far from an expert... Andy did indeed play a yellow natural BB2000 on a vast amount of Smiths records in the studio, but like others have said, he mostly played P basses live, most notably his sunburst 1964 P bass, which he bought during The Smiths' first trip to America (apparently bought it partly because he was born in '64) He did use the BB2000 live now and again though. There are a couple of youtube videos of The Smiths playing on The Tube and Andy has his BB2000 on those. There is also this famous shot of The Smiths backstage at Glastonbury, featuring Andy's BB2000, on the gatefold of the HATFUL OF HOLLOW album Amazingly, Andy sold the bass in 2003 for $5800 on ebay check out the story here: Andy sells BB2000 The Yamaha has therefore been something of an unsung hero on the Smiths albums given that Andy is more visibly a P bass user. But you can't deny the superb bass tone on recordings like Barbarism begins at home and William, it was really nothing which are undeniably the BB2000 (Mike Joyce, Smiths drummer confirmed this for me himself a couple of years back at a gig) In the quest for authenticity, I've been searching for a similar yellow natural BB2000. Last year, I picked up the next best thing, a natural BB1200 from 1979, in fabulous condition Basically the same as a BB2000 but without the bridge pickup It's a gorgeous bass and has that great Yamaha punch and does the job just fine. Beautifully constructed and as people have said before, sounds like a p bass on steroids! Here's a nice shot of the thru neck on mine: Having played both the Yamaha and a P bass live with my band though, I'm starting to see why Andy didn't use the Yamaha as much as the P bass. The Yamaha, with its punchy clarity, definitely seems to work better as a recording bass and the P bass better for live. I can't put my finger on why, but it just seems to be the case, although I still do use both live. Partly because I have one of them (usually the Yamaha) tuned up a whole step (F#, B, E, A) - Andy, especially in the early days, used to play in this tuning - A lot of the songs, particularly the two I mentioned earlier, are definitely a breeze to play in this tuning - I still haven't found out why he played in this tuning though - any ideas anyone?? Anyway, to wrap up - I think the Yammys are definitely underrated basses - unsung heroes of the bass world for sure, as was Andy Rourke!
 14.
Top tip. Done.
Interesting how you got the battery in mate. I did consider one of these pups for my CV P bass, but bottled out lol Bump for a great P bass
Good to know you and your 1200 have bonded. Get around to lowering its action a fraction? Will hold on to three each, of the 1200 and 2000 models, including the 003 you saw. If I ever did consider selling that natural 2000, I'd know who to PM!
I need the truss tool to sort the action out properly really mate. The bow is definitely much less pronounced after using your tool (pardon the expression!! ) but could do with more tweakage definitely. I can't really comfortably lower the saddles any more until I've tightened the truss a little more. Once the truss is right, may not even have to lower the saddles. Yes mate, that 2000 figures in my long term plan for sure Anyway, enough of me and my 1200 Noel is a connoisseur of these fine basses people and is an excellent chap - you could do a lot worse than buy from him
Did yours survive the tour, Bobby? This one is another of the "eleven" (a 004, as opposed to the 003 you saw). Planning on holding onto the one you saw (and the natural 2000). I know, I know!
Oh yes mate, she sang her whole way through the tour and is still in great nick now, a most treasured bass Recorded a couple of shows and the BB1200 sounds superb in the mix, compared to the Precision! Yes, not surprised you're keeping hold of that one, not to mention the 2000 ()

 22. Hello all Here we have a Shine SB35 for sale. I bought this bass about four years ago. It was brand new, but advertised as blemished, as the SHINE logo is missing. It is still in excellent nick now. Shine instruments don't cost much money at all generally (hence this low price) but they're pretty decent, as anyone who's played one will tell you. The bass is active, the 9v battery is mounted inside the control cavity. The four pots are: volume, pickup selector/blend, bass boost/cut and treble boost/cut. The bass has a lovely ripple, or dare i say quilted finish on the top, as you can see in the pictures and really looks the part. I ended up doing two UK tours with this bass! it's got a nice punchy tone that belies its price tag and is pretty easy to play for a five string. I've got no call for using fivers now though, so this is now surplus to requirements. Great for a beginner or anyone who fancies delving into the five string world for the first time. I'm asking for 60 quid delivered. I don't have a case for the bass but will throw in a Ritter gig bag that I've got going spare. (see pic) It's a bit tatty but will facilitate the shipping somewhat. I will pack the bass well with bubblewrap etc also.
 23.
Its a AH500 mark4 so quite old (but Emily loved him-thats how old it is, if you get that reference!!)
Well, I liked the Bagpuss reference I love my VA350 in much the same way, my fan generally behaves well but I will keep an eye on it
 24.
I love this bass and it's my main gigging bass now. I've also learnt a lot about wiring and pots etc. Just as well it's a cheap bass. I don't think I would have done this with a MIA.
I couldn't agree more dave and like yourself, I've learned loads too with regard to wiring/soldering etc over the recent months. It can only be a good thing, bud
