Well customer service appears to be excellent. I emailed YooSmart last night about the failed switch. They were very apologetic that they could not send a replacement before Thursday as they are moving office this week.
-
I'll give them a try and feedback later
-
yeah, you're right; I'll drop into Maplins next time in town - i really can't be assed to ship this back to China and wait again. while we're waiting - has anybody tried this compressor live with a band? I'd be interested to know if it holds up the bottom end in that situation and I'm not playing bass in a band at moment.
-
Ha! Musta been where I went wrong!! Seriously tho, it just failed with no heavy stomping. I musta switched it less than 20 times since it left the box. I guess i may have just been unlucky. Let's see what their customer service is like now.. ....

Well I nearly said before that while it sounds better than Boss to me, it doesn't feel as durable. I shoulda said that.....i just went to have another play and the latch in the bypass switch has already broken and I was already in my slippers! So, sorry guys; but no more testing or feedback is possible from me. Shame really, cos as Sir Chewey said i dont think you would get a better one for that price. For the few moments I played thru it again, without the Keeley in the chain to compare to, the Joyo was sounding pretty darn good.

Just got to have a first noodle with this compressor. Tried it on both bass and guitar, all passive thru a 15w all valve 1x12 Fender Blues Junior. A/B'd it against a Keeley 4 knob Compressor, which is probably not a fair fight; but it did reveal the difference against a compressor that really knows its onions. Almost inevitably I feel a bit underwhelmed by the Joyo. I felt that it was producing more level than compressio/sustain. Also the tone was quite harsh and actually detracts from the natural tone in bypass; whereas the Keeley adds compression rather than more level and the compression adds nice squashed tone and clarity to picking notes. Obviously the Keeley is about £180 compared to around £30 for the Joyo and at that price it's a steal as a budget compressor and of slightly better quality than a Boss. It is may be nearly on a par with MXR quality. Clearly this is all IMHO and only first impressions. I will play more over w/e and get back to you
Alternatively, we might just want to be collectively grateful for their cunning tax-avoidance trick!
i heard a good trick for keeping import duties low on guitars was to dismantle it and pack it safely but looking like junk in need of repair. only trouble is you can only insure it for the value of the worthless junk that you declare it to be.
It sounds like an air conditioning unit. I've left it with the electronics repair room at work who say the fan bearing is fine but they are going to source a new low noise fan and fit some gaskets to it and give the whole thing a good blow through with the compressed air.
mine sounds like that too; great amp though and i don't notice the sound when playing. please let us know if the lo-noise fan is quieter and most importantly whether it has any affect on the performance of the amp?

mine came from Yoosmart, based in Hong Kong (apparently) and still total cost was only £28 with free delivery and definitely no import charges

phew, saved by the bell, my colleagues don't have to suffer the dreaded BASS BURP after all. the compressor just turned up and it has a customs decalaration on back with a declared value of $6 and no customs fee to pay; but b*#~ocks, I've been had, it's only worth $6! parcel is well wrapped and pedal comes in a nice box. it all looks good so far. I'll have a play with it when I get some time over w/e and try and get some clips up as soon as I can after that.

or you could try a G&L, maybe an L2000 or an Asat. Leo himself reckoned they were the best instruments he ever made and they do cover a lot of the same sonic territory, plus a whole lot more. They are also very consistent in terms of build quality and feel to play. an Asat is close to a Jazz neck and an L2000 is close to a Precision neck Also you could get a used USA model for around £600-700; which is a bargain for an instrument that is probably better quality than any Fender you could buy today for just about any money. sorry guys, this probably didn't help, did it!

still no sign of mine, maybe it got held up in customes then... meanwhile, my GAS is building up somethin' rottten and I am liable to explode with a very loud bass burp!

i know it's not exactly what you're asking, but seeing as we're on the subject of these awesome basses........ if you want to remove a bit of the growl and get an all-round Fender-ish tone: try both pick ups on, no bass boost, passive with max on each knob. very nice tone there that seems to work in all settings. I actually prefer these basses in passive mode, generally. for more cut through, you might want to try bridge pup only, bass boost and active (but no treble boost); i've found that gives quite a crisp and well defined tone. my main thought is don't give up on these great basses; it does take a while to get to grip swith so many tonal options, but once you've got them at your finger tips, you'll find this is a bass that can step up to the plate in just about any musical situation. Oh and, as you say, they are SOOOOO nice to play. PS - Hello Dub Junkie - that Asat Special guitar is still getting plenty of love in these parts!
Great. It would be great with some bass sound clips of the Joyo JF-10 with compressor on and off.....and maybe even also a completely clean clip (I.E. no pedal plugged in). In my experience sometimes even True Bypass colours the sound.......
D Good call; I never quite believe TBP either. No sign of the JF-10 yet tho; it must still be on the high seas.

G&Ls are stunning instruments designed by Leo Fender. The Tribute range are the Far East made versions of the better USA made instruments. The main difference is the quality of wood and better craftsmanship of the USA factory which is in the original Fender factory. £589 seems a lot for a Tribute. If you dig around you could probably pick up a used USA G&L for that price. The L2000 has more like a Precision kneck and the Asat is like a Telecaster with a Jazz neck. The electrics are the same on both and are awesome. They are like no other classic USA bass and are v flexible; they can be run active or passive and in or out of phase. I would highly recommend them if you like Fender or MusicMan instruments. G&Ls are better quality than both IMO.
a guitarist friend of mine has ordered one recently. i'll give it a try on bass when it arrives, and update.
Great, I would love to know how it is on guitar too. Any views from your mate on it for that?

Anyone tried the Joyo octave-up fuzz? If this compressor is as good as peops say, I reckon i will have bad GAS for the up-fuzz!
-
Not yet! Am looking forward to it tho. I love a good compressor!

Hi Panther seems like only yesterday I was buying your Pedaltrain Junior board, so you could downsize to a Pedaltrain Mini.......what happened?!! Too much GAS?

Been totally happy with Fender Bassman 135 rig for nearly 15 years now. It's just a great platform from which to build pretty much any sound I want. It delivers the sound of the instrument very clearly. I have a bass from 60s, 70s, 80s and 00s. Each produces the sound of its era. Also the Bassman head is awesome as a guitar amp. So I get 2 for price of one. Oh did I mention the amp cost me £70 from Admag, the 1x15 cab I use was £100 and the 2x15 was £225. I am v happy with this arrangement!
