1. My lakland has a blend control. Basically why everyone else said is the way it works, pans the pickups or whatever. I like it bang in the middle
2. One question. What basic equipment is needed to put ur bass laying into the computer etc?
3. Haha well Ive got photos on my phone but I can't find my USB cable... Typical init
4. I've got photos on my phone but can't do much with them
5.
Hey Bass Guardian I'll add my £0.02 to the mix as well - I didn't even pick up the bass and play properly until I was in my 30's so don't worry about finding people of your own age-group! I've gone down a similar route to you. I'm one of two bassists in our church P&W band (and there's several more multi-instrumentalists in the team as well). Age-range is late teens to pensioners, but most are in late 20's / early 30's . Recently started going to a regular jam night in Cambridge (last one of the year was last night...funked the place out!!). I probably play twice a month for the church, on average, plus maybe two jams a month as well, just enough to stop me going rusty Practice is king, but nothing beats playing with other folk and learning some new stuff - find some folks nearby and see what pops up. I know it's done me and my playing no end of good. I was pretty nervous the first time I went up and jammed, but you'll soon get used to it, and dare I say it, even enjoy it! After all, it's all about having fun. Punters won't care than you missed the chord change from an Em to a Gm, especially if you make the transition sound convincing (ghost notes all the way!!) Anyway, just a few thoughts and experiences. Good luck in your search HTH, Ian
Thanks i play twice a week for my church but its a very small band, two singers, 1 pianist, 1 acoustic guitarist, 1 drummer and me!!! I play in sauchiehall street, glasgow every saturday night from 7 till bout half 8 as part of our open air. Pretty basic songs, old ones at that too. But i dont feel im progressing much as a bassist.
6.
Then it doesn't exsist.
thats unfair haha ill have another look for usb for phone just to prove u wrong http://www.lakland.com/44-01.htm Basically its the exact bass model as shown in the link
7. I dont have a camera and my phones usb has been lost for a while haha
8. Bass has arrived. Got a text this morning saying it would arrive between 9-12pm and it arrived about half 11 and it was well boxed. Bout 3 boxes it was packed in and im keeping them just in case delivery is needed ever for something else. The bass is a keeper absolute beauty. Guitar Guitar +1000000000
9. Its arrived absolute stunner and it sounds well good
10. Thanks for all the replies. A music shop funnily enough has just recently opened in Irvine although its stock of guitars etc is very, very limited to starter guitars so far. Mind you it does have soundproof rooms you can rent out for a couple of hours. I might put an ad up in that shop maybe...
11. Thanks everyone for they're input much appreciated I'll see what I can do. I'm not too fussed about it but I would like for it to happen. Just need to wait and see. Is there any such jam things in Glasgow? I go to college in Glasgow so could maybe pop in etc
12. One other thing is that I pretty much don't know any other musicians my age. I never did music at school plus I'm shy when put on the spot like if I had to do an audition. Also Irvine ( where I stay ) doesn't do jam nights as far as I know. Lucky me...
13. Is it possible at all just to join a band just for jamming purposes and maybe not gigs. I know this sounds stupid but my dedication to my church (I'm not expecting anyone to understand) means I'm taken 4 nights a week so I can't really gig. Has anyone joined a band or something similiar just for jamming occasionally? I want to improve my bass playing by playing with other musicians really. If such a thing is too ludacris I understand Alex
14.
Thanks - its a great bass. Fantastic range of sound. Only reason for sale is a love of 4 strings and not 5. I would happily go for the 4 string version.
I have the four string version on the way as we speak from Guitar Guitar...CANT WAIT!!!
15. Come on folks lets all be pals I suck make fun of me instead
16. Great B string on these Plus its just lovely
17. It doesn't arrive till Thursday now
18. See you!!!! Got me gas again.....grr
19.
come kids!!!! you know you want this!!!
That's what Gary Glitter said....
20. Im 17 and im well rubbish compared to these guys that are 15 ( from what they've said ) Good luck with ur career, personally i dont plan to play bass. Even if i did want to play bass as a career and ive kind of excluded myself from the 'network' of musicians by not taking music at school or put up any ads for a band (except on here ). Which i suppose i could incliude myself but im scared of auditions etc incase im too crap. Apparently i play to a grade 5 approx, but this was from a guitarist and not a bassist I suppose this is the point i try to defend my honour as THE bassist of Irvine.......na i just suck EDIT: i also just recently found out what an arpeggio is....just says how good my theory is
21. I cant wait for this bass to arrive XD
22.
IMO..best bass at that price range Bar none.. every one ive played has been a cracker.. pre may be lacking, but if you feel the need to its a very tweakable bass... very well made.. to be honest its way past its price range... if you want you could put a US Bart pre in there and some US Barts, or Nordstrands, and turn it into a bass that would sound as good as the US models.. i had a 55-01 with a Glock pre and some Nord Fatstacks and it sounded better than my Sadowsky... of couse the standard bass is still great.. hope you enjoy it..
How much did all those mods cost? Sounds a bomb...
23.
I have used this bass for about 95% of all of the gigs I've done this year and it has never, ever done me wrong. I've really depended on it and it has not put a foot wrong whatsoever. I still don't get why people swap out the pickups so readily. A lot of people say they sound 'thin' or too bright, but judging from experience they may have a cabinet that goes really 'high' and that'll reveal the very wide frequency range of these pickups. However, remove quite a lot of that high end and they sound exactly like a traditional high impedance pickup (like on my MarkBass for example, the VLE can give a HUGE amount of different 'subsets' of sounds by changing the frequency response of the high end of the pickups). In other words, don't let other people's comments sway you too quickly! It's worth learning how to get the best out of these pickups first
I never really planned on changing the pups. They sounded great to me, i like quick a bit of top end as i like to slappa da bass but of course i could cut it quite a bit with the preamp.
24.
I would be very happy to speak very highly of them. When I went shopping for a new bass nearly 12 months ago I wanted to try and get the best playing and sounding bass I could get for maximum £600, largely ignoring aesthetics and preconceived notions etc. To me, the Lakland 44-01 felt conspicuously better to play than practically anything else in the price range, and I've subconsciously always really liked the sound of the Mk1 Bartolini pickups which I will most likely keep in the bass. The only thing I think almost everybody finds lacking (including me) is that the preamp could be a little less noisy (which is a shame, because it's actually a pretty nice sounding preamp I think, but it's moot point as it is passive defeatable) although quite a few people also don't like the standard Mk1 pickups either and replace those (the rout incidentally fits some 'interesting' pickup choices!). General personal points - it has really grown on me so much, and although I don't own many basses it is without a doubt the bass I would sell dead last if I really had to. If you've got any more in depth questions then just fire away P.S A lot of people hugely underrate these out of hand, I think! They're no peacock visually but that's really what makes them such great value for money IMHO.
Thanks for that, when i first had a wee noodle on it i was very impressed and blew the jazz bass i was hopin to get out the water. Yeh sure its a bit loud...very loud like u said with the preamp but thats what u want sometimes . I just hope once ive settled down with it and playing it for hours hopefully i wont find too many faults Roll on Wednesday!!!
25. I have a lakland skyline 44-01 on the way due wednesday (whether thats true is too be seen) Anyone have or had one of these basses and if so whats ur opinions on them? Thanks Alex
