firstly if its just one sound your after then why have more than one bass that can deliver that sound? what basses have you tried that can deliver a tone similar to what your after? I would say the sadowsky pre amp will give you a punchy jazz bass tone that cuts through (going by sadowsky metro's I've played)

bought a strap off gareth and it came the next day! chuffed

one thing i've found with many students is they want to learn this stuff in a week. If your not practising everyday its going to be very difficult unless you have lots of previous experience on another instrument. Same with reading, its taken me a couple of years to get my reading to an ok standard and i've been doing it everyday for 3 years.

can't believe i couldn't afford tickets to brixton! I'm sure it will be one of the all time great musical moments that will come from this decade. It's pino at brixton, s i can't see a reason for them to change for this

on the subject of slap. Does anybody else find it really difficult to cut through the mix when slapping. Particually when there is 2 guitars playing

this was last year, possibly october/november. I know a jazz from a p bass

depends on the gigs your doing. Really you need both so you can play jazz on the fodera and pop on the fender

there was one on ebay, unbelievably it went for £750!!!

The action on mines high for jazz playing which can be annoying but i want it high so i can practice arco. I don't think it'l be a good investment in terms of it'l go up in value but you will definitely get your moneys worth out of it. I went with some silver splappers on it and they sound and feel brilliant

[/quote] tbf to include birmingham was a bit harsh as i've never lived there so wouldn't know the little bars and venues. It just doesn't seem as musically alive as london, although it could be very underground And yes Liverpool has a great amount of history in music. But, it still came across as the worst place i've ever visited. Especially in you get lost around the back streets. I've never seen so many boarded up windows on houses!

ahh yes i forgot about sherwood forest! that is great tbf (when your 5 years old) Yes the bass gallery is where sei basses are made, and nope its in Camden. Denmark street is just off oxford street (the fashion shops for the wife ) and has still got 5 or 6 really good music stores, 2 or 3 of which sell the odd bass

Because of ACM it has got a great music scene though. Nearly every pub has live music and there are jam nights every night somewhere.

sorry if I'm getting this wrong. Does it take out the frequencies that make the cones move? And we can't hear these frequencies anyway? Slightly confused by the whole thing but the video makes it look very useful although i think an explanation for tech dummies such as myself would be good.

Fender Custom shop's, early and late 70's originals, US standards, US RI and none were even close to the feel or sound that the tokai produces. I think mine was made somewhere between 84 and 86 and i got it off here for £350!

i owned a american deluxe fender jazz 5 and i own a Overwater jazz 5. The overwater is only worse because its not as good looking (the fender had a transparent crimson red finish and a maple neck ) At everything else it is far better and that makes it better for gigs as it doesnt give me anything to worry about. My favourite jazz bass is my tokai though, as it does an amazing set of sounds and looks very cool. Havn't found any jazz bass i like more since i bought it.

i personally think its great, as it offers a new challenge to us performers. I know an incredible drummer who practices as much Gaga and britney as he does jazz fusion and latin because for him its more of a challenge to replicate a drum beat thats been chopped up, quantised ect. I do also believe the reason for it being so present in todays chart "music" is because it goes down well at clubs and what goes down well at clubs often are higher in the charts these days.

the rhythm section of any rock band [b]HAS[/b] to be killer if its going to work. When i play AC/DC (one of my favourite bands) the trick is to keep it as simple as possible on the bass. Its all about the guitarists showing off.
