1. wow, that really turned out great. i guess, the hardest part was the routing and the pedulla logo, right ?
  2. Damn, thats a nice Bogart right there ! I had a few myself, and I still own a single coil equipped 4 stringer, and a Humbucker equipped 5 stringer. These Basses are probably the most underrated basses out there. Whatever you heard about graphite necks and graphite bodies, it's not true with this bass, since it sounds so "woody", right ?
  3. price drop for you. 1700 or make me an offer... or again, check german ebay, if thats what you like more.
  4. how come i can't find this thread in the basses for sale list ? now i found it. already went to the second page... that was fast :-)
  5. ok, added a sound file to the original post. by the way: is it possible to embed the soundcloud player here ?
  6. ok, i updated the original post. well, since i have no feedback in this forum, but i do on ebay, i'm sure potential buyers would prefer ebay. if somebody is interested in this bass, and ebay is the only way to go, then i'll have to pay the fees. but if its ok to sell it over the forum, then even better.... i'm just offering both. i'll try and post a sound clip later, so you get an impression of how this tobias sounds in a band context.
  7. good to know. could you maybe post pictures of the ball ends and the headstock of ernie balls and SITs to compare ?
  8. sorry, didnt know that. asking price is 1800 euros or best offer. i thought, people feel better to buy it through ebay, instead of sending money to a complete stranger... so thats why i told you about the ebay thing. so its ok now?
  9. hey folks. a buddy of mine wants to sell his tobias classic zebrano. it has a beautiful zebrano top, alder back, and a thick layer of wenge in between. the neck is made of flamed maple and purple heart, the fingerboard is made of wenge. as all tobias basses, it features an asymmetric neck profile, and dual truss rods. as for the electronics, the bass comes with custom bartolini hum-cancelling soapbars, which are radiussed to match the fingerboard, and a 3EQ preamp, which has switchable mid frequencies and a push/pull contour switch. also, it features a hand made acrylic pickup ramp, that is readiussed, too. i guess you know what that's good for, right ? the tobias bass comes in its original hard case, and the lifetime warranty card is included. THE BASS IS SOLD. greets
  10. Hey folks. I found this used set of strings in my drawers, and put them on. Now, I really like the way they sound and feel, so I'd like to buy a new set, but unfortunately I don't know what brand or model these are. Let me tell you what I'm sure about: the gauges are 100-80-65-45, and the string tension is pretty hard (but that's subjective). Also, they feel pretty slick, but I'm pretty sure they are not coated, cause I can't see the coating coming of anywhere. Also, they sound quite bright, even though they seem to be used for at least 2 month. So I suppose, those are stainless steel strings, but I maybe wrong on that. Maybe the ball ends and the wrapping at the end on the head stock helps to identify the strings ?
  11. really nice. what color is that exactly ? car paint ?
  12. really nice ! by the way: i don't think the color will fade with the UV-lights on stage. guess to make the glow effect fade the color would have to stay in direct sunlight for years, but the UV-lights that are used on stage and at home aren't real UV but very dark blue. so i guess it would keep the glow effect.

Thanks.
sorry, i didn't know all that. i put a price in the original post. is it OK now ?
I did PM this basschatter about his asking price if the bass were for sale, but i've not heard a peep since, and that was a day or more ago????
no need to snitch on me, man. didn't notice your PM.
I think he said it needed moving, MB. You can PM a mod to have this moved, and the mods are listed under each forum on the index. If it's for sale here it will need a price, or flagging for trades. That said, I can't find it on Ebay. Lovely bass, though! Wouldn't mind a go!
can't Hamster move it, who's root admin ?

there are some soundfiles HERE. these were recorded with such a bogart with a humbucker, but it was a 5-string.
As I understand it, that's going to have to have a price put on it or get moved to the ebay links forum.
didn't know that. sorry. how can i move it ?
I don't understand the tuners - adjustment at both ends of the string?
the tuners are on the bridge, as they are on a headless bass. what looks like tuners on the head are just screws that hold the strings. that way, you get a bass that has the benefits of a headless bass (good balance, good tuning stability) but with also the benefits of a headed bass (the good looks that is, and the possibility to use normal strings as you would on any headed bass)

  18. i wouldn't change anything on it either. i got one of those bogart JJ myself, and it's a real monster ! just play it a bit, and see if you like the tone. it can have lots of zing, but also growl like a mad dog. what's the pickup height on your bass ? talking about pickup to string distance, try 3mm on the bridge pickup and 4mm on the neck pickup. that setup sounds very good. and what strings are you using ? i recommend stainless steel .40 but it also sounds very good and zingy even with fender black nylons. if you have questions about the pickups, why don't you ask the guys from SKC ? thats the company that built them. they were selling bartolini electronics and pickups too, so they must know what's in there. by the way, as far as i know, the schack and slapper beelzebub basses had SKC graphite necks too, right ?
  19. sounds nice. the wooden cover could "get in the way" only if wood would shield the magnetic signal from the pickups. and wood doesnt do that. at least thats what i think. maybe the wooden covers were too thick, and the actual pickups were too far from the strings. but then the bass would have had a very weak signal... anyway, EMGs seem to solve the problem now. keep the soundclips coming. maybe you can record through some virtual amp or something ?
  20. i have to agree with dave.c graphite necks feel very different, and knowing that you have a sturdy neck changes the situation. had a vigier passion III too. nice bass, very light, and the neck never changed or got out of tune. although i didnt like the sound that much, but that has to do with personal taste. also had a basslab, which was lovely too. the skc bogart basses are lovely. it seems like graphite necks have one thing in common: the sound is very even across the strings. after playing wooden instruments for a while, i was surprised how even the loudness of the strings and of the high / low frets were on graphite necked basses. also, there is lots of ring and lots of low end. (thats a thing ebony has too). i wouldnt say that in graphite necks, we hear the "glue". i'd say, we hear the material thats inside the neck, since the neck isn't made of graphite alone. there is some "filler" inside the graphite core. on basslab basses, it's just air. others use some sort of foam. if a trussrod makes a difference in sound is hard to tell, since it's hard to play the exact same bass with trussrod and without trussrod. but i'd say there is more difference in two fender maple necks then in the same graphite neck with or without trussrod. i'd always prefer a carbon neck without trussrod.

well, how much i want to spend is unclear. if i know that a bass is bright, i would also buy it used. like, buying a used status or alembic if i find one. i'm not going to get one built by a luthier, because at the end of the day you never know what you get (and i don't have enough money for that)

what do you think: would an all maple bass with ebony fingerboard have quite the sound we are talking about ?
A lot of this will vary between individual instruments even within the same make and model. A friend uses a 3EQMM and I wouldn't say it's especially bright set flat.
well, i guess his treble section on the amp is faulty ;-) now, i found a good example of what i mean. listen to this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NJwU-Ipe5s the stingray has a broad high end range, while the thumb has lows, with a bit of treble on top.
