1. That's beautiful man. Just in the interest of geekiness: according to Fender website, 1974 was the introduction date for black scratchplate and high thumbrest. So I reckon your bass is likely a 1974 but with 73 pots and possibly other parts. Killer either way. BE
2. SOLD Hi everyone So... this bass was sold about a year ago to a happy customer but when he had to move it on a month later he offered me first refusal and I bought it back. I'm putting this up for sale again as I have several other Pbasses and this one doesn't get much use. Has been in its case for the last year so the photos and description are still accurate. Here's the ad again, copied over from the old thread: "This is a mid 90s Fender Precision 51 RI, sunburst and maple, made in Japan. Build quality is top-class, the bass is a brick s**thouse, lovely shiny gloss finish with just a couple of very minor hairline scratches. Beautiful grain to the wood and a pretty, vintage-looking 2-tone burst. You'd never know this bass was nearly 20 years old and I've gigged it a bit too. I had the silly 50s-style 2-saddle bridge replaced at The Gallery with a standard Fender Precision 4-saddle bridge so intonation is spot-on. Also the bass has Schaller straplock buttons on. I think they were gold originally but they have faded to somewhere between gold and chrome. I don't have the originals. 3. Wasn't really looking for a trade but, thinking about it, I would be interested in a 70s Gibson Ripper. Or a nice Strat or Gibson acoustic guitar. Or a U87, or a Shure SM7. Mic preamps? Cash either way as appropriate, obviously...
4. BUMP again. Couple of people interested but it's still here...
5. Sorry mate, not really up for a trade. Thanks for the offer though, sounds like a cool bass.
6. Edit: SOLD Edit: PRICE DROP £450 now! Hi everyone, Here's the third of my basses that I'm putting up for sale to fund a nice microphone for the studio. Had to rank them all in order of how much they get played and these three just haven't been out recently so they're up for grabs. This is a black 2007 Fender Jaguar Bass, made in Japan. It is all-original, with the exception of some Schaller straplocks (I do not have the original buttons unfortunately). It is in great condition. Electrics work fine, bass was recently set up/new strings (40s I think) at Chandlers with a medium/high action to get maximum tone with a pick. Loads of room to lower this badboy down if that's what floats your boat. Neck feels great; super fast and a lovely grain both sides. Typically glossy neck and beautiful aged pearl block inlays. Finish on the front of the bass is spotless. On the back is a tiny ding which has not cracked or broken the surface. On the bottom of the bass is a rather nastier bump which has hairline-cracked the finish but it's not visible when you're playing or when the bass is on a stand. These look worse in the photos than they do in real life. Unbelievably difficult to photograph an all-black bass! Sounds like a Jag should: like a Jap 70s Jazz reissue with a beefy pre-amp. Does a good impression of a motown P-bass if you go passive, flick the series switch and play muted. A very versatile instrument. Got two scratchplates included with this one: the factory original "mint green" one if you want to look like Pino, or a Jeanies black/white/black 3-ply which is, if anything, a better fit and finish than the factory scratchplate (plus looks bad-ass all in black!). Will be in an old Rockbag gigbag-style soft case, a bit knackered but does the job! Looking for £450 for this. Pick-up only, cash on collection. Bass is at lockup in Staples Corner, North London; or at my studio in Finchley N3. Not up for sending this in the post, sorry to those of you further afield. 7. BUMP for a lovely old Japanese Yamaha TRB5. Sounds like a bass worth 4 times this money! Super-fast and easy-to-play. BE
8. SOLD! One happy bassist gone home with a superb P-bass. Great fun listening to some Fender basses through the studio monitors. Good vibes. BE
9. Hi everyone EDIT: this bass is sold! here's the second of my basses to go up for sale this week; I am saving up for a nice mic for my studio. Build quality is top-class, the bass is a brick s**thouse, lovely shiny gloss finish with just a couple of very minor hairline scratches. Guess what, it turned out she actually was a robot. In this video you're hearing the bass clean through an SVT and 8x10. Proper old-school Fender tone like it should be. Bass will be in an old rockbag/soft case type thing. Looking for £450, pick-up only; not into sending it in the mail, apologies to those of you further afield. Bass is at a lockup in Staples Corner, North London. Going to give it a week on here; if no-one's up for it then I'll try ebay. Here are some photos: I have used some from a couple of years ago that I took outside with an SLR which better show the colour and grain. Plus a few I took today on my phone. 10. Hi everyone, here's the first of a few basses I have for sale. I am saving up for a microphone for my studio so I'm shifting my least often used basses. This is a Yamaha TRB5 II, made in Japan, in Amber Burst. It is in its original Yamaha hard case and comes with a set of chrome and a set of gold strap buttons. I'm going to take off the gold straplocks that are in the photos and replace them with one of the original sets of buttons. It's in great condition; only marks are a couple of tiny hairline knocks to the finish on top of the headstock and some very light buckle rash. The bass was very recently set up at Chandlers with 40s and a nice medium/low action. If you want to hear it, the bass was on a little soulful house remix I did with my mates. Go to http://www.traxsourc...ittle-w-12th-st and have a listen to the previews of the 'Danny Clark & Jay Benham Mix' or the 'Danny Clark & Jay Benham Instrumental'. It was recorded pretty much flat through an Avalon U5. Looking for £450, pick-up only; not into sending it in the mail, apologies to those of you further afield. Bass is at a lockup in Staples Corner, North London. Going to give it a week on here; if no-one's up for it then I'll try ebay. Nice one BE
11. Great-looking bass, how much does she weigh if it's not a rude question? Cheers, all the best. Ben
12. Looks killer. Any chance of a clear photo of the back of the neck/headstock so we can see if there's any repairs etc? And what's the weight of this badboy? Cheers. BE
13. Cheers Chris, thanks again for your excellent hospitality. The amp is killer! BE
14. Picked up a superb Tech 21 guitar amp from Chris yesterday. Had the privilege of a tour of the 'ezbass' collection, really excellent 60s Precision you've got there mate! Worth it just to hear Chris nailing some Tony Levin lines on the old Stingray, a perfect cup of tea and a good deal, nice one. BE
15. Now on ebay. Get involved, probably get a bargain on this one...
Hi here we have a Yamaha AW16G 16-Track in really excellent condition. Hardly used, not a scratch on it. It's an 8-in, 16-track digital hard-disk recorder with a built-in CD drive (for data backup or audio); it'd be great for recording a band in a rehearsal studio before bouncing onto your computer at home, or unbeatable as a rock-solid backing-track player for gigs with programming (no more laptop jumps and crashes). Or both! I inherited this badboy from a friend and am selling it on as I already have a well-used Roland VS1680 which is basically the same machine. It's in a lovely briefcase-style hard case with cut foam interior; you got your AC adaptor, your instruction manual and I'm throwing in a Shure 16A condensor mic as it was in the box. Plug it in and you're in business, no messing about with downloading plug-ins and add-ons and upgrades, this is a tape recorder but digital, nice big buttons! £220 seems the going price on ebay. I'm putting it up here for a week first to see if there's any interest from the bass-heads before I stick it on ebay. £200 to you lot with the lovely case and a mic. Case alone must be worth a few quid and you could happily put a U5 or a markbass head or a preamp or something in there... I'm in NW London, happy to meet in London area. Postage gonna cost a fortune but you're welcome to pay for it if you like. Nice one all the best BE
