I see effects as colour.
Some songs require black and white parts, whereas others require more colourful ones

It might be a dumb thing to suggest, but why not try contacting ashdown directly
Often companies are prepared to send out the part for very little or even free

perhaps some sort of preamp/ boost before it?

the parameters are fixed. It's all in the manual

The Marshall vba and DBS 7400 will run a 2 ohm load with no issues
I use two 4 ohm Marshall cabs and either a hartke lh500 or Marshall 7200 DBS head (which need a maximum 4 ohm load) with a cable that runs the cabs in what was described to me as series parallel. Apparently the heads 'sees' a load of something around 6 ohms. This is what my amp tech tells me!

I still use mine, but with an exP pedal.
Set to modes 10&11, I get some really great swell/ sweeps
