The hardware looks identical to the bits on my 1986 hohner b2a.
Agreed - exactly the same hardware as on my Hohner

Bought a G&L from Craig. Great bass at a great price. Well packed and very quick delivery. Pleasure to deal with!
The delanos, with the fat magnets and a good quality 3 band pre will be your best bet. Those delanos that a coils with MMstyle magnets give the best representation of the stingray character. Although you should probably just save ip and buy a ray, or a sandberg.
+1. The Jazz I've just sold had the Delanos with a John East J-retro. With the bridge pickup solo'd it sounded more like a Stingray than my Stingray does! Excellent combination, and I only sold it as I don't get on with Jazz necks.
Never played a Shuker. What are they like?
Fantastic. The build quality is exceptional - everyone is handmade by Jon. As to spec, Jon will build pretty much whatever you want. I'm not sure what his current estimated build time is - I think I waited around 9 months for mine, which was pretty quick at the time!
I'll try to call in if I can - would a US jazz (S1 switch) and a ric be of any interest to anyone?
Rics are always of interest
I might be able to come down from Manc for this, how far from the train station is the venue?
Its a 15 min car journey from the station. A bit too far to walk. I'm happy to pop into town and give anyone a lift if needed from the station?
change of plan! i may be able to attend, that days gig was cancelled! if i can make it, is there much parking, easy load in? how much stuff to bring? do we have to pay on the door or is it just beer money? cheers all! btw look at my sig to see if theres anything in particular needs bringing along, if not i'll just bring my gigging rig! theres a crown xls602 and spector legend 5 custom to add to that too!
There's loads of parking and the room is on the ground floor. Luke has suggested £6.00 on the door to cover the room costs (post 72) - Luke, might be worth putting that into the first post? Change of my gear list as I've sold the CIJ Jazz and it will be in the Czech Republic by next Saturday. I'll bring the new G&L though if its arrived! rmshaw - can you bring the Spector please? I fancy trying one of those!

Do we have to vacate by a certain time? Shep
Post 63 - the room is booked from 1pm to 6pm. Looking forward to it - looks like there's going to be some fantastic gear there!
Not a bad idea for a source for a budget body but the neck is then the next challenge. Does anyone sell new Mighty Mite fretless ebonol necks in UK these days? Or similar?
My fretless is a Squire Claissic Vibe Jazz with a Might Mite Fretless P neck (Ebonol). I bought the neck from ebay in the US. I'm not aware of a UK supplier. Another option is to pick up a cheap fretted P neck and defret it. I'm pretty cack-handed at DIY, but did defret a Squire P neck years ago, and its not as daunting as you think. There are some good guides on line.

Hi Dan Welcome to Basschat - some nice gear you've got there. Check out the thread on the Nottingham Bass Bash this month. The ideal place to meet up with a few other East Mids based Basschatters!
Hey, my old bass!! I was responsible for putting the Delano's in and can confirm that they vastly improved the sound over the stock pick ups, I bet it sounds even better with the J Retro.
And your pictures which I pinched for this post - hope that's OK! It does sound fantastic with the Delanos and the J Retro. All PMs replied - some very tempting trade offers, but nothing final as yet!

NOW SOLD I've decided to move on my Classic 70s Jazz reissue. The pickups had been replaced with Delano JMVC4FE/M2 pickups before I bought it. I've also since added a John East J retro. Excellent upgrades and it looks and sounds incredible. I'm only selling because I don't get on with Jazz necks (this is the fourth I've owned - I ought to have learnt by now!). I will also include a Gotoh 201 bridge which i was planning to fit, but which I haven't got round to doing yet! These pics are from an earlier for sale thread before the J-retro was added (hope that's OK with the previous owner). My camera has died but will get some pics of the J retro asap! Mint except for a small crack in the laquer above the bridge pickup, caused by my clumsiness when adjusting the pickup height. Its hardly noticeable but only fair that I mention it. Looking for £475 plus postage (hopefully a fair price - the Delanos, J-retro, and Gotoh bridge would cost the best part of £400!). I'm happy to consider trades with cash either way, so feel free to try me. I would be particularly interested in '51 reissue Precision, five stringers, pretty much anything with a P/J or P/MM configuration, or even a Telecaster thinline reissue (long shot, but if you don't ask...).
I had both my 4003's set-up....and the action is very, very low, about as low as is posible on any bass. They're both standard, no mods or additions. Pickup covers on - I love these! In the right hands, a Ric is perfectly adjustable as any other, and low action makes them play and sound even sweeter!
Me too. The action on my Ric is much lower than on my Fenders
I've just had a weeks holiday in 'Wells Next The Sea' (well, it is when the tides in), and had a day in Norwich. Is it just me or is this place a haven for Muso's?
I grew up near Wells, and get back to Norwich pretty often. There are some great shops down there. Including some good independent ones, which make a nice change from the fairly predictable chains. It sounds like you visited Cookes - they have two or three shops on St Benedicts St including some good guitar and bass stuff in one shop, and orchestral instruments in another. And as Dood says, the PMT in Anglia Square is pretty large too.

I quite like really well done relic jobs. People presumeably buy reissues because they want to buy into the vintage vibe without the cost of the real thing. So if you're buying a re-issue, I can understand why you might want it to look like its had 40 years of gigging, and hence the relic thing. I guess its just fashion at the end of the day. The problem is that the vast majority of relic'd basses look totally false. The Fender road worn stuff is pretty unconvincing close up, especially the sanded down areas of wear on the top of the body (although they feel and sound great). The Custom shop stuff is better, but still not entirely convincing. The best relics I've come across are the Sandbergs, which look fantastic (IMO!).
Do you take a spare amp? There's a lot more gubbins to go wrong in one of those. (Oh no, here comes the paranoia... )
Good point - I always take a DI pedal of some description for that very reason. And I have had to use that after an Ashdown died on me mid-gig.
-
IME the moment you stop taking a spare instrument is the moment something goes wrong with the one you're playing.
I'm with BigRedX on this. I always take two basses. I've never actually needed the backup, but I'm pretty sure something will go wrong the first time I don't take it!
