1.
This guy is on a different ebay account now, wonder why he stopped trading under snakermusic, someone on bassworld said he was a nice guy to deal with and that he actually delivered the bass personally
Yup that was me and I'll tell you why. I have his mobile and his landline. I can speak to him and he delivers in person, so I can inspect the bass and pay cash when I'm happy. I have no worries about Paypal, cheques or delivery. Do I know where the bass comes from? No, but neither do I know the origins of a lot of stuff I buy on ebay. I do know a genuine Fender though.

I don't give a toss about his sales technique. It's absolutely abysmal I agree, but if that puts potential bidders off, leaving me to pick up a bargain after putting in a bit of effort to check out his background then I hope his patter gets even worse. Previously his items were on auction rather BIN, which made getting bargains a lot easier.

He's never going to be my friend, I don't know him personally, I don't care if his sales fall through and I'm not defending him. I did, however, buy a brand new Precision with tags and case for under £400. Maybe I treated him like Oxfam?

  2. You really need to work out what the current situation is with your bass in order to work out which way to turn and by how much.

Take a capo and put it on the first fret. Fret the E string at the last fret - you now have a straight line formed by the string. Now, with the string held down, how much of a gap (if any) is there between the bottom of the string and the top of the 7th and 8th frets? If you let us know we can at least give you an idea where to start.

Ideally you need a feeler gauge to check this gap as it's quite small.

  3. Not many amps actually have the DI on the front from memory. It's actually an inconvenient place to put it if you think about it.

The only one of mine that does is ....... an Ashdown :)

This is reasonably easy. What you need is a lead with each end terminating in a stereo 3.5mm jack. Plug one end in to the 'line out' of the Tascam and the other end in to the 'line in' of your soundcard. If you don't have a 'line in' on the soundcard, then the 'mic in' socket on your PC will work also.

Keep your PC speakers attached to your PC and your PC will effectively act as the amplifier for the signal coming out of the Tascam. You may need to enable the 'mic in' or 'line in' tick box under the slider on the windows volume control.

    Cheers

    Steve

  5.
those things we refer to as "bassii".
Nope - pretty sure you're in a minority of one there! "Basses" would be my guess :)

as far as innovations go, I'd like to be able to recall preprogrammed preamp settings, though I'm sure someone's though of that already.

  6. From experience of making a board with carpet and using velcor on the feet of the pedals I'd not recommend it. I used 1/4" MDF from B&Q and cut it to the same shape as a case that I had already sourced then covered in the carpet covering (like on cabs) and screwed feet to the bottom.

In hindsight, I'd cover the board in tolex style stuff (you know the black plastic covering) and then stick velcro in rows across it.

  7. I had one - it was quite good, bearing in mind it's a 12" speaker. Quite heavy for a low powered amp but good for practice. I'm not sure it would be loud enough to gig with in a full band situation, though.

  8.
is yours candy apple by any chance?
Is that paint any heavier? :)

My Lakland Darryl Jones is 9lb 6. Surprising I thought given that it's smaller than a Jazz. That weight puts it in Precision territory.

  9.
I would say that the CIJ ones are better than the MIM ones when it comes to quality. The quality of the Jap instruments is extremely high - better in many cases than the MIA stuff. If I was buying a Fender unseen I would only go for a CIJ - I'd have to try the US or Mex ones first. The CIJ jazzes I've had were really top notch. I've never played a Mex that was anywhere as good as a Jap one.

try them all and see for yourself.
I agree- the quality of Japanese is consistent. The quality of Mexicans isn't, based on the mexicans and Japanese Fenders I've owned. In fact the Japanese ones are as good as the Americans.

The MIM 50s classic is good value for money assuming you get a good one. If you're distance buying you cannot always guarantee this so going Japanese minimises the risk.

  10.
I really wouldn't mind but it's so bloody noisy. It starts of whirring and then goes to a high-pitched whine - a bit like an old VCR rewinding - the high-pitched drone when they rewind to the beginning of the tape.

If that's how it is, I can't live with it. Doing a quiet number - acoustic, maybe - would be a nightmare.
OK well I certainly don't get that under any circumstances. The fan is certainly quiet enough to be able to play acoustically. I would liken my fan to the sound of a regular desktop computer if that helps at all?
