  1. That band doing the Irish stuff seemed familiar!!!
  2. I wasn't expecting much and it didn't disappoint....😂
  3. Oh dear......oh dear!!
  4. When I tried out the bass and pointed out the issue..in my opinion of the neck he came back and yes it's Mexican! I said rubbish I have recently owned two Mexican made p bass and they were brilliant in every way! He said no I mean a few of the Mexican bass guitars recently had issues with the necks! From what I understand from one of the other comments it seems that the NM bass has jumbo frets and its the edges that I felt rather than fret sprout. If that is the case I really would have to try out another one just to see if that is the case. I am used to a nice neck profile and smaller frets on my Squier Classic Vibe guitars and was disappointed with the feel of the end of the frets.
  5. The point of playing the bass was to give me an idea if one crops up second hand what the bass would be like.To be honest that particular guitar wasn't up to scratch but there are plenty more out there.........
  6. I agree.. I had a Classic and Vintera 50,s bass guitars and they were top notch.
  7. Was in Glasgow today and I took a run in to Merchant City Music. I have been looking online at the Nate Mendel Signature p bass as it seems to fit what I am currently looking for in terms of look and neck size! I currently use 3 of the Squier Classic Vibe range and the fit and finish is superb! Also the neck is a perfect fit for me and to top it all..they sound great! I had tried out a Nate Mendel before lockdown but went with the Player series instead. I seem to remember that the player series was around the £600 mark and I believe the NM was about £850. They have a NM in stock at £1399! To be honest I wasn't going to pay that money anyway but just wanted to lay my hands on one to see if it measured up and I would have been looking around for a second hand version!. It certainly looked the part..roadworn but not dragged behind a car type of thing. But when I picked it up I was shocked! The guitar sounded terrible and the fret ends stuck out all up and down the neck! They were jumbo type frets but that said they felt horrible! If I was blindfolded I would have said I was holding an old Westfield!! The young salesman came up and asked what I thought and I pointed out the neck...ah he said! It's Mexican!! Bloody hell!! Seems a lot of the recent Mexican bass guitars are like that. I had a look at a Vintera series and in fact had a feel of a few of the necks on other makes and nothing came close to how bad the neck was on the NM. He said we might have to get the tech guy to have a look at it! Anyone own a Nate Mendel bass and what like are the necks....It was like trying to play a ladder!!
  8. Pointless...
  9. 1978 Custom P Bass Made In Japan. Bought from Forbes Music,Glasgow in 1978 with original case. The previous owner used it for a couple of years before moving to guitar. It's been in his house since then. In fantastic condition with working truss rod,low action,no fret sprout or sharp edges, maple fretboard with some very nice spalting.I have replaced strings, fitted new Alpha 500k pots, rewired and replaced jack socket. So no crackles or cutting out. A very playable instrument with a big sound from the Maxon pickup. From a clang to a thump!.Nice unmarked body with original chrome covers. Custom logo in ablone on headstock. Pretty rare and very rare in this condition for the age!! As far as I can work out this was made in japan by Hayashi but can't find out much more!Any questions just ask! Would prefer pickup but can meet or will post if you sort out the usual stuff!

  10. 1978 Custom P Bass Made In Japan. Bought from Forbes Music, Glasgow in 1978 with original case. The previous owner used it for a couple of years before going on to guitar. It's in fantastic condition and has low action, working truss rod, no fret sprout and the neck is maple with a maple fingerboard which has some very nice spalting.I have replaced the strings, fitted two new Alpha pots and renewed wiring and jack. Apart from that all original. Very playable instrument with big sound from a clank to a thump. I believe built by Hayashi but can't find out much more. Nice ablone Custom logo on headstock. Any questions please ask. Would prefer uplift but can post if you sort out the usual stuff.
  11. I never bothered with the neck or nut width before getting the Vintera/Classic P bass. Seems they are 44.45mm. How do you find yours? I got hold of the Godin and it's 38.1mm jazz size I think! That seemed to suit me better. Had a look online and seen there was a lot of difference between the P bass nut width. My Player series worked for me but at the moment the Squiers are perfect! Well at least I know what to look for when I get hold of another bass....lol
  12. Played in George Sq,Glasgow for the Winterfest. The usual market and funfair Chrimbo stuff. Very busy and great atmosphere. Was not looking forward to it at all due to worries about parking and the gear we had to use on shared stage. No worries though, all good with a decent onstage sound and seems it was great out front! Many thanks to The Clutha Trust for asking us! I played through a Line 6 combo using my Squier Classic Vibe P bass which is deffo living up to the hype! Loving it!
  13. If it works for you why not. I prefer to hear bands playing everything live for good or bad. But it does open up a lot of tunes that you might not be able to cover. Getting a keyboard player can help but getting a good one is hard! Never played in a band that used backing tracks but di a jam night with a drum machine and it was a bit of a joke!
  14. Keep music live lol!
  15. It is a bit misleading but I remember the original adverts and reviews. When the 3 colours were on sale the adverts stated ash/alder.The Honey blonde ash bodied bass was discontinued but the adverts/spec remained the same. I would say it Alder.I had both the Vintera and classic series and they both were Alder. Cracking guitars either alder or ash!
  16. Are you sure it's Ash?I had 3 of these. The Seafoam green and the red, both Alder and the only one that was ash was the Honey Blonde one.
  17. Yes.....and no! I won't be changing it as folk have read and commented on it and this is the end of the thread anyway! And it was a rhetorical title as I am sure you know this is a safe place to buy and sell!
  18. Looks like it was a bank error after all! Got a phone call from our bank,Virgin after several weeks of phone calls and messages and making an official complaint we were told that the money that I sent to the person on this forum that I was buying a bass neck from had indeed went to someone else about 15 seconds after my wife pressed the pay button on the app! It,according to the bank went to someone I had sent money to...5 years ago with the reference ''bass''...The same reference we used for my latest purchase! As someone on this thread had pointed out it was some sort of computer glitch! That said the bank are still saying that it was something we had done wrong sending the money! Which with the app is not possible. I mean when the payee gave me his account details both my self and my wife checked and entered the details and according to what I read online, the bank app checks the details are correct ie proper spelling, correct account details then we press send and the transfer is away! Only after sending at around 10.30am it was marked pending all day and we checked with the seller only to check at around 4.30pm and find it had gone to someone else...someone I had bought something from 5 years ago! We have been told because we had pushed so hard to get to the bottom of this that they believe us and will refund our money whilst trying to get it back from where it ended up! So.....sort of result but as I suspected all along, the bank was at fault and won't admit it also customer service was shocking all the way through!
  19. BC Camplight in Glasgow on Wednesday night! Excellent band!
  20. That's what me and the wife said at the same time! Stevie Riks!!!
  21. It's pretty average...Not a good final song and I believe George Harrison said it was rubbish! Despite the tech used to put this together it does sound like it's been put together out of bits and bobs! Fans will love it but.....
  22. What a racket....it's total guff!!!
  23. Still waiting on refund from the bank. They are dealing with it and have asked the bank that the money seems to have landed at for the cash back! Seems we have to wait 15 days for this to happen. Wife spoke to them last week and they can't tell us any more info at this stage. I know we won't get told why our money went to a different bank to the original one at the start of the transaction! By rights it should be sorted out any day soon. Will let you know the outcome!
  24. Yes Dave that's them! When I joined them I told them about the Graeme Hotel and the singer wasn't interested. I explained that Emergency Exit had some decent nights before lockdown and I could speak up for us and get us in. I met him recently and he said that they got a booking and were looking forward to it! Hopefully they have a good night. They do have a following so should have a crowd but volume is going to be an issue that's a given!
  25. Played there with Emergency Exit before lockdown and it was pretty mixed. Great feedback from local punk fans who turned out and punters in the room seemed to enjoy it! I was back in last December and it was as you described...punters in for the football and some stayed. Some others in for a meal and really did not want any music! In fact they got a bit whizzed off when we asked them to move away from the pa! Also folk dropping in for one drink on a pub crawl. I think although it has been one of the music venues in Falkirk from the old day's that still put music on it's trying to be a sports bar, restaurant and music venue and it isn't really working! The volume is an issue because of the layout. We were contacted about getting booked this year but I was a bit late in getting back to them and got hee haw! I think that was maybe for the best! One of my mates bands are playing there very shortly and I know for a fact that they will blow the roof off volume wise!!!
