It goes stupidly loud too 😁

  3. I've spent the last 42 years searching for my perfect bass tone & gone round the houses several times.

Until recently I had 2 Dingwalls which were beautiful basses, but just didn't give me that tone no matter how much tweaking I did.

I even swapped the pickups in my ABZ but alas to no avail.

I soon realised I was trying to get that P bass tone from basses that just can't do it,so after much deliberation I swapped my ABZ for a Modern Vintage MVP-62 at Bass Direct.

    I could not be happier.

It is the perfect Pbass for me,excellent build quality & fantastic tone,my band absolutely love it,looks pretty cool too.

I soon traded my other Dingwall in for a Modern Vintage Jazz bass which is also a fantastic bass, but as mentioned above a Jazz bass cannot do a good a P bass tone.

I really am going to have to try an ABM again.

Might talk to Dave Green to see if it would be safe to install a fan bypass switch or a half speed switch for when the amp is at say only up to 1/4 on the volume.

I've not heard the fans on mine, didn't come on at all at house volume & after a 2 hour gig I check 5 minutes after finishing, fans weren't on.

  5. Lol,I'm an old hand at this malarkey now after 36 years or so of gigging😁

I've been using a Darkglass Microtubes 900 for the last 3 years but after using an old class A B at a new rehearsal room on Monday I notice there was so much "more" to the tone, hence my purchase 😀

    Can't wait to unleash it

I find that the drive sounds better when the EQ isn’t too bass heavy

I saw an Ashdown demo where they cranked the input gain and drive gain for a filthy sound.

VU meter needle was permanently in the red !!

Now that sounds like my kind of setting 😁

I've used my ABM500 II for years now. The whole ABM series are great amps. Yeah, shape off, start flat on the EQ and don't be afraid to wind up the input gain on these!

I usually keep the valve drive down at the 9 or 10 o'clock position. The EQ possibilities on these are vast.

    Thanks for the info 👍

I will almost certainly crank the valve drive pretty high as I play in a classic Black Sabbath covers band 😁🤟

Nice, I had an ABM300 and went through a few brands before landing back with Ashdown a few weeks ago (RM500/RM112). Have taken the head to a few practices and it was pretty gnarly.

    I do like gnarly 😁

  9. Just taken delivery of my new Ashdown ABM 600 evoIV & am very happy with so far, build quality seems spot on.

However I'm stuck at work & won't get home until late, all week too so won't get to fire it up until Saturday morning 🙃

I have a gig on Saturday night too so straight into the deep end with it & looking forward too hearing it in a gig environment.

Hoping I really like it after a few years from switching to class D due to an arthritic knee which has now been successfully replaced 😁

    Bring on the "heft" 👍

I'd have taken the covers off and run home with it immediately. I'd have maybe liked a little more mid honk in the pickups for a more pronounced mwah, but I just reached for my amp EQ anyway, The tone and build quality of these basses is very good.

    I totally agree I couldn't be happier ☺

I'm really looking forward to your reviews, especially on the P bass as it is my actual bass you reviewed 😁

Dave,I would highly recommend Mike Lull as a P alternative...I have the 30" scale (pic above) but they have a number of scale/fret config's, the build, ergonomics & sound is excellent....good luck....

They are several times the price of a Modern Vintage bass though 😁

Been looking for a good P bass and was looking at Vintera P bass but couldn't get the one i wanted and came across these basses on BD site and i'm very interested. The reviews on them come across as excellent basses.

How are you finding yours now that you've had them a few months.

    Dave

    I'm absolutely loving them.

I've gigged my P bass twice now & it sounds fantastic,my band really like it.

The J I've only played at home so far but it is a superb Jazz bass in every way.

I have owned dozens of Fender & clones there of over the last 4 decades & personality I think these are the best ones I've had in all that time.

Build quality is second to none, superb finish & so playable with lovely necks.

They both balance really well both on the strap & on the knee probably mostly due to the light weight Hipshot tuners, which hold tune perfectly.

I love the roasted maple necks too,it really brings the wood grain out.

If you are wanting a really nice P or J I definitely reccomend these, massively better then the Vintera P I had or indeed any MIA,AVRI,MIJ or an Overwater J bass I once had.

Awesome! I think if I get another (I have a Shell Pink MVP), it will be the Shoreline Gold P!

    Si

I think Bass Direct has one in stock 😁

It is a very nice colour as is your Shell Pink & my Seafoam Green MVP 😁

there are fantastic instruments & well worth the money.

Did you save much by going Direct?

My brother fancies one of there Strats

  14. Nice that matey 👍

I had a Vintera P  a while back & that was an excellent bass, although I did fit KiOgon loom to it which was a very good improvement

Looks lovely.  You maybe put a bit of wax on the offending dings or a bit of superglue?

I remain very tempted by the fretless Jazz

Thank you,I was going to try some she polish as I have some almost the same colour.

I can very highly recommend them,my MVP-62 is fantastic too.

If that’s the only mark then I think 9.5 is justified. Looks like typical symbol knock

Yes definitely agree re cymbals bloody drummers 😁

The bass is definitely a keeper,I just wish I'd known beforehand.
