If you buy a bass with tone controls, then you will be able to adjust the sound for different purposes....try as many different types as you can, you will figure out what you do and don't like. Personally I'd say don't spend much until you're ready to go all in when you're clear of what you like...but do whatever suits you!

Had a few tracks pretty much done, thought I'd try and fix them up good enough (by my standards anyway) to put them up on bandcamp. everything you hear is me. Drums were live recorded. Bass used was a 6 string squier affinity jazz (amazing value!). Guitar was a thomann DIY prs style. All effects/processing done using guitar rig. Used reaper for daw. Bit late to the concept of feedback - but bought a squier jazz a few months back. Bass was great, had an open chance to test and lawrie was very accommodating. Would recommend!

Totally DIY job, so while it might not be anywhere near professional, I'm pretty pleased with it. Not looking for any money or anything - would just like to spread the word!
