1. Maybe i should substitute 'gloss' instead of 'laquer'?
2.
I presume the sole reason it's lacquered is because J&D are making a copy of a 1975 Jazz Bass with a lacquered neck.
i learn sonething everyday i never knew 70's fender jazz's had laquered fretboards...good call. ps....just measured the pup spacing on bith my cvj and vmj...both the same...60's spacing?
3.
I thank you - I'm interested in how it compares to Squier VM and CVs, in terms of sound, build and weight. Meantime, I need to decide which colour to go for...
i've both vmj and cvj and i have fallen out of love with the classic vibe....lovely thing but i prefer the sound of the vmj...seems a bit more...i dont know a bit less smooth and more bite than the cvj...the cvj seems duller for no apparent reason....the cvj does cone with a fatter cap could be why or the pup spacing maybe?
4. Ooh look a blue one too (daphne styley) ....nah got to be surf green!
5. I'm gona buy one of these super cheap J&D 1975 vintage bass in the surf green for no other reason than i'm shallow and love the colour combo and they appear to get some good reviews. The website spec' and this pic shows a laquered maple neck. Now i've owned a fair number of maple necked bass but never with laquer finish....is it simply to keep the neck clean? " th a classic look reminiscent of a 1970s 'JB' style model. The J&D JB Vintage 1975 SFGR has an alder body in a very familiar offset double-cutaway body shape. The bolt-on maple neck is cut with a very comfortable rounded profile, and is topped by a bound maple fingerboard. The block inlays on the frets mimic the bass guitar styles of the 1970s. In the electronics department, the JB Vintage 1975 has two 'J'-style pickups, one in the bridge position, the other in the middle position. Each pickup has its own Volume control, while they both share a Tone control. The bass has a Surf Green finish, and the body is fitted with a three-ply black pickguard. The fingerboard has a gloss finish, while the hardware is made of chrome. The main features of the J&D JB Vintage 1975 SFGR, Surf Green include: 1970s 'JB'-style bass guitar Alder body Bold-on maple neck Bound maple fingerboard with gloss finish 2 x 'J'-style pickups 2 x Volume controls, 1 x Tone control Chrome hardware Surf Green finish with a 3-ply black pickguard"
6. If you need like for like knobs try yamaha uk they are very helpful, otherwise just measure shaft diameter and depth and then ebay is your friend.
7. Fantastic entertainment....i'd pay money to see him live....makes a change from bass in the darkest corner style!!!
8. I had my paypal stopped because according to ebay/paypal someone had tried to hack it but had been unsucessful.....had to wait 28 days with 1500 quid in limbo, not a great experience....they then said it was a mistake and no one had tried to hack the account!?'?! Nowadays i have as little as possible (zero?) in my paypal account. a guy i deal with in my business of used car sales told me he had the same thing happen a few years back..only he had 23k in the account and took 6 months to clear up to be told no problem found.... too many horror stories abound of paypal for my liking...and just lately i've had 3 bad experiences on fleabay....never again.
9.
Lie down - you'll be in effectively the same position as standing up, only lower.
good enough for james jamerson ....a few drinks to help the pose even better!
10. 4, 5 'n 6 single string per note but never double octave on a bass...but i dont get out much!!
11. I've never seen a bass like this before...I've come across stringy cat-gut stylie acoustic folky 12 strings that I think are tuned normally, but with octave between 'same note' strings...but a bass? My eyes may deceive me, but has our favorite cross dressing Korean 'slapster' got an 8 string bass? I like the sound of it. ...there are tuners a'plenty on that headstock? 12.
The Peddlers. Some of you may not have seen these guys... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gOLkwj-zVI
loved that great post. I'd heard but never seen anything of the peddlers....but i wonder if those kids were slightly traumatised by it all?!?
13.
I can take the relic look or leave the relic look but I do wonder how the f**£ some genuinely worn basses get into the state they're in. Do the owners take them to gigs tied to a tow rope behind their car? I own several guitars that I bought in the 70s, one is from the 60s. They were extensively gigged over the years and still look 9/10 condition today. It makes me wonder what the fake worn basses are based on? Maybe it's ones that were accidently dropped off a ferry and were recovered in a trawlers net 30 years later? Frank.
you know i really echo your thoughts...when i was buying a stingray -never the cheapest bass- i was amazed at the condition of some....one looked like it had been used as a mallet to bang fence posts in, another had rusty fittings and buckle rash that can only of been done by george michaels belt in faith, and yet another had been erm refinished in what looked like mg mgb dashboard crackle finish which the vendor insisted was original....i may have been unlucky?
14.
Absolutely.
plus another....would'nt that be criminal damage in a court of law?!?
15. Can 'relicing' work (however poorly) on anything but a fender....for example a 'reliced' sb-1000 is just a tatty aria....isn't it? So uncool to my mind but then i dont like tatty 'n tired.
16. If you take the bass to a 'proper' car body shop they will have countless paint chips (colored strips) by color and you may get lucky..chances are that it will be a us automotive color...also some body shops have a paint scanner which scans the color to give a paint recipe they can then knock up.
17. I had a wee google and found that Farida are made by GREE..grand reward education and entertainment.....they must use a randon word generator for these companies!! .....chinese factory that make around 13,000 guitars per month and 25 OE's! Rumour has it they also make the Squier CV series.
18. Is that a typo.....should 150....read.....tnt115? Theres quite few different pv's out there with model names all over the shop....and most are still going so could be a 150?
19. 'Yuuuuup'! as that guy on Storage Wars says....I've got one 'tis a very good bass indeed....£10....got to be a BC record?
20.
Not sure why the anti proclaimer comments, these guys with just an acoustic get all types singing along , they are fairly unique in the commercial pop world, think they deserve a little more respect.
+1 but really not their best performance by a long way....usually sooooo very good...still worth watching though.
21. Ahh of course....theres me thinking it was a strange chord i'd never come across?!?
22.
How can a P bass be a 911, it's hardly a mass produced instrument used by the full range of musicians and made in different parts of the world? Both iconic, but that's as far as it goes for me.
Just a thought but.... i think 911 production has topped over 800,000.., thats a mass production by any measure.....anyone know how many fender p's been built? Anyway .....yamaha rbxa2=mitsi evoX
23. Ps mr swifts bass....be jesus that brings the concept of fugly to new heights...i could feel my stomach churn......i dont drink anymore so it wasnt already full of new years eve spirit
