On my MS-60B the patch name stays visible in memory mode (I have to press exit to see the selected stomp-box in that patch). I really like this cycling through a list of selected presets, one of the reasons I did not 'update' to the plus. Edit: just saw someone else already confirmed this. I will not remove the post, never hurts to mention it again : )

After watching the deep-dive video I think the Anagram can do 2 effect loops: 1. The effect insert through the Send jack. 2. Using one of the 'outputs' as a send and the Return jack as the return. Am I right, can someone confirm? (...GAS has returned...)

No, the LPF must be on the clean and compressor path, the HPF must be on the distortion path if you want to replicate the DG X7. But indeed it was just an example.

Depending on the use-case the 8 blocks on the Stomp are not that many. For example if you want to replicate a DG X7 you need: 1. compressor 2. LPF 3. HPF 4. a distortion 5. EQ If you then want a noise-gate, a volume-pedal and some amp/cab thingy for FOH you are already on its limits. To me the biggest drawback of such a 'replication' is, you have to surf 5 different block menus and their pages to fine-tune it. Not a nice thing to do at a rehearsal (I did this with a HX Effects that has a superior UI compared to the Stomp, still not nice). The Anagram is MUCH better with such tasks having the configurable rotaries!

The Darkglass really did disappoint with their digital products so far. They released the same device three times, just with different colors and different software. It would have been nice if you were able to load the 'Infinity' software into the 'Adam' device , even if you would have to pay for the extra software.

Well that would probably depend on the updates the Anagram gets? It already has a great UI and is super simple to use. But there is not even proper midi at the moment. If that will be implemented as soon as in 'Quad Cortex soon' and it is updated like the Element (almost not if I understand correctly) then no. Edited: if I understand correctly this is a Korg company device. I do not know about their update and support history.

Maybe not? The Line6 Stomp is comparable to this Anagram and it is a rather constant factor on many boards for many years. -------------------------------------------- I have a Boss GT 1000 Core (also a bit comparable) on my pedalboard for almost 5 years now. These devices can be the center of a hybrid pedalboard that would be much too large (for me, and my bicycle transportation) if it would be constructed of stompboxes only. Clearly I like Darkglass: But I already realized the Anagram cannot do what my Boss can. The Boss stays, but the pedals around it change (actually, it already changed a little since my 'Post Your Pedalboard' post from last week...). On the Boss (and on the Anagram also) you can configure the rotaries to give direct access to parameters you need most. On the Boss you can also make an effectblock global so it will behave just like a stompbox would (meaning changes will be made to all the presets containing that effect). And, although it is a multi-effect it does not mean you have to use presets and/or different modes for the device. If you look at my Boss you can see it has dedicated functions for the footswitches. I use only one preset, but the Boss replaces 10 stompboxes! I'm just offering my personal opinion and experience, if someone insists to use stompboxes only then more power to them, hehehe : ) (ps. and slightly off topic: I am curious though how long I will use my Boss Core... My laptop (for internet/banking/YT/BC) is a secondhand 20 years old Panasonic CF-19 with Linux. I do not use a PC to edit my Boss. The Boss can be updated without any extra software needed)

Probably you can have a (mono) fx-loop/insert on the SEND jack and simultaneous use the RETURN jack as an AUX input for practice. That is actually a rather flexible use of those 2 jacks, although I would have much preferred one of the options being TWO mono fx-loops/inserts... : )

The FX return can be used as an external expression in. Personally I would not want to give up the FX-loop for that though. I would buy a exp-to-midi converter for an expression pedal. link to the manual: https://www.darkglass.com/anagram-manual/#Rear_View ----------------------------------- Edit: On TB someone says you can use a splitter cable and connect a exp-pedal AND an audio return. The manual says: "Return (exp): A dual function ΒΌβ jack supporting either a stereo return or an expression pedal input." I am not sure what to think of this...

The UI looks nice. But is it smart and fast working? It seems impossible to see the whole signal chain on one screen. If you are a 'heavy' user that means plenty of (extra) scrolling if you want to first fine tune the first pedal on the upper path and then the last pedal on the lower path. The pictures of the pedals on the screen look nice, but they seem to not showing the actual values of the pedal? Edit: looking at the manual there seems to be plenty of customization for the rotaries. I will read it before more complaining : )

Hiding the spaghetti: I am changing this pedal-board layout much too often to commit to tie-wraps and the like. So I attached a piece of cover of a document organizer with velcro and a gaffer-tape 'hinge'. This is a Pedaltrain JR, I cut off the 'rail' at the back to make it more flat (I prefer that because of the expression pedal) and smaller. This pedal-board is for an 'eclectic punk' duo (drums, bass, 2 x vocals). With the expression pedal I add a secondary (parallel) distortion with delay, reverb, pitch-shifter, sound-hold and/or chaotic effects from the Boss Core.

For me 'blending' only works if the clean path has a LPF and the filthy path has a HPF in front. In stompbox-domain that's a lot of pedals for a distortion sound (... so yeah, Boss GT Core : ) By the way, to me the X-Bass distortion on there is quite good. I played in a loud sludge band and from the distortions I tried (several blended options and also Darkglass pedals) this X-Bass was absolutely the easiest to fit into a mix and without loosing 'thumb' (if by that you mean the low frequency portion of the attack, the part that differentiates loud bass and loud guitar). On it's own it sounds a bit boring, not spectacular at all. Because of this it took me a long time to actually try this one. Good luck with your endless search, do not give up, do not leave the distortion to the guit@ri$ts !!! π (certainly in recordings there will be distortion on the bass to get a huge sound ?!)

With the 'boost' expression pedal I can gradually add the MT-2 or HM-2 on a parallel signal path (with a HPF at 250 Hz pre distortion) to my main bass sound. I have always liked these filthy Boss distortions. It seems I like 'harsh' : )

On TalkBass it is said (I believe it was confirmed) that the rattling noise is coming from those plastic 'cursor' foot-switches. Try shaking it while putting pressure on those switches to test/confirm this?

Greetings from Holland, This week I made an account, I think this is a nice and generally friendly forum, I like it! I am not someone to post a lot or start threads, but now I can [like] posts that I appreciate and ask questions. I started playing bass in 1989 and joined bands playing punk, deaf-metal, new wave, crossover, sludge and some experimental stuff. Right now I play in a drums and bass punk-ish duo. The drummer is singing and she encouraged me to start singing (well, lets call it shouting..) as well. I am so glad I did! I feel much more engaged with the music now that I do. No gigging with this duo, yet. On TalkBass I have an account with the same name and profile picture. I joined there because of a specific effect pedal I like. Here on Basschat I also will probably spend most time on the effect sub-forum. Thank you for reading my introduction!
