Uh-oh. I’ve decided I want to start experimenting with different preamp valves in my Spyder 550. Down the rabbit hole I go.....

  Yup, also JJ are a fave of mine (premium drive tested). Watford Valves do a range of in-house "Harma" brand. These are all premium drive tested and low noise types. The STR versions are of JJ origin. Theres also a really nice Mullard sound-alike called the Retro that Harma have.
  
  Getting all fancy, I have a NOS 1958 mil-spec preamp valve that i have been meaning to take for a spin for ages. Best i get a valve pre to plug it in to!

  Some old Mullards are good in the 550. I also really liked the American GE or Sylvania JAN-spec, rugged as hell and sound very good.
