Messy or not, what's on your (music) work desk right now?

Mine's more a corner with a Cajon to sit on and a laptop perched on a cab! -
Is that "no sound" or "it is fine on its own but gets lost in the mix once everyone else starts to play"?
-
It will be an interesting case if it happens - I think for now it's probably quite safe to purchase the IP as if a case like this happens the companies selling the AI music creation will have far more to lose than any individual so are far more likely to defend their business plan.

Would it be sensible to do a private message welfare check on those who are "Still In" 🙂 ?

...and yet as someone who has an entirely analogue board the appeal of a pedal with a familiar shape and a few extra tricks up its sleeve for occasional use is appealing... never even been remotely tempted by the Line6 stuff as too much scrolling...

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

When you say deathcore breakdown are you meaning what happens to the drummer after they have been forcibly mated with their chinese crash 🙂 ? -
You would have a very strong argument though - if someone is trying to claim copy write, but you can point to a document where they explictly said they are selling it to you, then you have a pretty decent defence - certainly strong enough for me to run with.

Possibly not an irrational prejudice: china crash cymbals should be banned. -
Coincidentally there are a whole lot of ideas on the following thread ranging from breaking the singers nose (maximum rock n' roll points) through to sneaking out a toilet window...

A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices. – William James -
MIght be worth noting that the AI music generators I looked at had a paid-for subscription where you could buy the IP for the song. ie with the free version the AI owned the copywrite so you couldn't really use it, but pay the £15/month you could then use it for whatever you wanted to. So I don't think "who owns the copywrite" is a particular problem.

Flutes - an instrument that is never needed in bands that include drums, bass and guitars. Orchestras, marching bands OK maybe - but not rock music! Bloody things are seldom in tune anyway. -
Ah yes we discussed this a few weeks ago (link below) when I made the following in about five minutes: Dancing With Shadows.mp3 I'm not ever so impressed by the songwriting, it's more the fact that if you have both the lyrics and a rough tune you don't need a studio or musicians anymore to get something recorded. Likewise the singers AI can produce are a lot better than the majority of people I know!

In my only band that had originals we just agreed not to gig any of the songs solely written by the departed member. Thus said we did record and release things pretty quickly so no one could really try to release something in their own name without referencing the band as the recording was already on spotify etc. If any of the departed song writers wanted to re-record and release again I don't think I would have a problem - I think legally the song IP belongs to the writer, but the recording IP belongs to all those on the recording, so a songwriter can re-record and re-release, but musicians can't... I think...

...mind you there was a memorabe wedding gig I was at where the lead singer (I was doing sound so not my band thank goodness) got a bit drunk and after thanking the bride and groom for the invite went on to say that the band could also be booked for divorce parties, future weddings and also funerals for those sitting at the back... I thought it was hilarious, but everyone else was less amused! -
...regardless of what he was like in your band that's pretty dedicated!
-
...in another band we went through two or three members after fall-outs due entirely to arguments in the car park after load out. I think it was just a case of everyone being a bit tired (and sometimes alcohol was involved). Decided that for the long term good of the band we wouldn't speak to each other during load out - just pack everything and go! Sadly COVID did for that band in the end as we got out of the habit of playing together and then people moved on to different projects.

Trace Elliot - Rescue & Restore (and bargain finds)
SimonK replied to SimonK's topic in Amps and Cabs
If anyone is in Canterbury this seems a bargain. I'd absolutely get it for the head alone if I was closer, and also not tripping over nine cabs as it is! -
That's the most "rock 'n roll" so far - certainly compared to sneaking out a toilet window!

Yes but it says "Helpful" as well!! Looks like there was some sort of question and answer forum in the past where presumably people could upvote answers - or a particularly dusty place now?

What is a "best answer"?

An amicable band split - gave me an idea for a new thread:
-
In another thread a forum member mentioned a band finishing with "everyone remaining chums". While I applaud this band for its maturity, I don't think I've ever had a band finish without never talking to at least someone again (which I fear says something about me...). My least amicable split was when we accidentally dropped a flight case on our singers tambourine that she referred to as her "instrument". In penance the guitarist and I went to a music shop to buy her a new one but she didn't like the sound. Thus followed an argument along the lines of "but they all sound the same"... "no they don't"... "well you don't have to play it because it annoys everyone anyway"... etc. and the nickname "Jingle Bells" being coined. I think we only lasted one or two more gigs! I'm sure others can better this!
