1. Wednesday Hump de Bump...
  2.
I'm so tempted by this, a BTB405QM was my first "proper" bass and I really loved it, these are seriously good basses!
Thanks, Chris. It's a shame your so far away from Kent, otherwise you could pop in for a coffee and a play around with it Great B-string on this and plenty of tonal variation from the electronics.
  3. 87 views and not a peep! Tuesday bump...
  4.
Depends on a few things like finish and condition, but I would pitch it at about that too.
It's been gigged but is in great condition (no major dings or buckle rash) and the only modifications/additions are Dunlop Straploks and a Hipshot Extender. Finish-wise, it is 'Ocean Blue' transparent oil.
  5.
+1
Thanks, folks - that gives me a good guide.
  6. Hi All, I'm thinking of selling/trading my corvette standard 4 string (2003 German made model) for a jazz-style bass. Unlike a lot of folks on here I have don't have in-depth experience of the second-hand market so am struggling to come to a decision on what would be a reasonable asking price for it and what I could expect as potential trades. I understand that under the rules I need to state a sale price if I post an ad. Any advice/opinions on this would be really helpful - thanks in advance!
  7. Monday morning bump...
  8. Hi All, ***NOW SOLD*** I have for sale my Ibanez BTB 406QM in blue. This is a great 35" scale 18V active six string. As per the pic of the original receipt below, I bought this new in 2003 for £449 from the Bass Centre when it was in Wapping. Condition This bass has been well looked after and has no major dings. It's free from buckle rash. If you look at the picture of the tuning keys you will see that a couple of small plastic white washers are missing/cracked but this has no effect on the tuning capability or stability. It has been gigged a few times but is getting little use now as my SR5 is my bass of choice for the rock covers band I currently play in. The only modification to the bass has been to change out the strap buttons for Dunlop Straploks. It is currently strung with Warwick Black Label strings (25/45/65/85/105/135) and comes with an Ibanez padded gig bag. Specs: Bass type: 6 string fretted Neck join: Bolt-On Neck construction: 5-piece maple/walnut Fingerboard: Rosewood, 23 1/2 frets, 35" scale Body: Basswood body w/quilted maple top Finish: Blue Pickups: 2 x Ibanez OEM'd soapbars Hardware: Coated silver tuners, Mono-rail II bridge, Neutrik locking cable jack Electronics: 18V active 'Vari-Mid 3B EQ' with Volume, Pickup Blend, Bass, Mids (w/ sweepable mid-EQ), Treble Price This has been difficult to price as this model is no longer made and there apear to be very few for sale, but taking into account the condition and age I think £250 plus postage is a reasonable price. It's an excellent buy if you fancy a foray into ERBs without splashing out too much cash. Im not looking for trades. Postage I haven't researched postage yet and to be honest I'd prefer if this was picked up, but I"m sure we can come to an agreement on cost and courier if you're interested. I can also travel a reasonable distance to meet. Pics Please PM if you need any more pics or have any questions at all. Thanks a lot for looking! Dave.
  9.
Look at Ibanez, I have a BTB406QM and I can't see any reason why I'd ever want to upgrade. Only cost around £500 for the equivalent that's around now too and some beautiful woods.
+1 I have one of these too and they're great for the price. Will be selling it soon on this forum! :-)
  10.
There's a SR5 with Status-Graphite neck on The Gallery's website right now. Worth a look if you want to compare side by side.
Thanks very much for the link - I may well give that a whirl!
  11.
I've had mine for over 5 years now. <snip> I have never regretted doing the mod and will never sell it. Sorry I don't have any recordings.
Hi, Interesting, and thanks for the reply. So I take it you don't miss the sound of the original neck, or is it the case that the sonic difference was too small to be a factor compared to the benefits of stability etc.?
  12. Hi All, Are there any opinions/experiences out there putting a graphite neck on a Stingray? Does this enhance the sound and stability of the instrument or is this largely a cosmetic upgrade? Ideally I'd like to hear the difference between the original and graphite neck, so if anyone knows where I might find some audio clips that would be perfect.
  13.
Bass Direct have a Spectorcore in stock at the moment... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...core_5_f_l.html
Hi Phil, Yes, that's the very one I was comtemplating - however I checked the Bass Direct site today and it's been sold! Darn. I'll see how long it might take to get another in, meanwhile back to the drawing board...
  14. Think I'll hold out for a lined fretless, but thanks very much for passing on photos etc. Have a bump on me for a nice bass! Cheers, Dave.
Tobias 5 string fretless currently strung with high C. Superb action and nice tone. Would be fab with Bartolini replacements. Very cool neck profile and great look. Includes softcase. See other sections for more gear to clear...
15.
How about a GWB35? Phil Mann had one going a little while ago, not sure if it's still available... ....(edit) ah no, gone! But they're damn nice basses (I have one) and in the right price bracket...
It was the combination of the mag and piezo pups that attracted me to the Spector. The GWB seems to get good write-ups, though - definitely one to keep in mind.
  16.
I have a fretless 4 string. For me the neck is a dream to play. I have it strung with TI Jazz Flats and they give it a lovely sound. I never use the mag pup but the bridge pup has a lovely sound, good deep tone and as zig-zag said, lots of mwah.
Definitely sounds like a promising candidate. Thanks for that.
  17.
I played one not so long ago. Pretty slim and fast neck, really light, easy to play. It's really easy to get a mwah tone out of them, and they're pretty versatile too.
Sounds like it'll be right up my street...
  18.
I tried one out a few years ago when I bought my first Legend. Nice slim neck (I played a 4 though), nice tones, good quality. I think they were about £400 at the time but Spector had a price hike last year.
Thanks for that. The 5-string is now around £679!
  19. Hi All, I'm currently looking for a 5 string, lined fretless bass and was drawn to the Spectorcore 5. I wondered if anyone has used one and what they think of it. Thanks in advance!
  20.
Tobias 5 string fretless currently strung with high C. Superb action and nice tone. Includes softcase.
Hi there steverickwood, Im interested in the Tobias and was wondering if you could tell me a little more about it. Do you know what model it is? Is it a bolt-on neck? Do you know what the fingerboard is made from? Thanks a lot! Dave.

    Hi Folks
Welcome! I ttried a couple of EUBs at Manson's the other day. Interesting...
What did you try out? Fancy a go at the NS WAV4 myself...
  23.
thankyou very much sir!
Hi Mate, Welcome from another Kent bass player - Bexley to be precise!
  24. All depressingly familiar. The covers band that I'm currently in seems to have all the classic symptoms. The annoying thing is that we've had some really great gigs, but a mixture of lead guitard incompetence and overall difficulty in committing to regular rehearsal is killing us slowly. I'm thinking of getting my hands on a EUB and some lessons to get me on the right path and then 'diversifying'. I'm absolutely not giving up!
