1. And thanks Mornats! The incredible response from friends and complete strangers has been very humbling.
2. Thanks guys and thanks for sharing thisnameistaken. I've definitely learnt my lesson letts!
3. Thanks guys, my post on Facebook has had an amazing response so hopefully someone, somewhere will see it and let me know. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150918074584311&set=a.55899049310.62239.39329794310&type=1&theater&notif_t=photo_comment
4. Another sad tale of thievery: I played a lovely little festival called the Edale Folk Festival on Saturday night. It was set in a very secluded and idyllic location in the Edale Valley in the Peak District and was attended by approximately 500 people (including, randomly, Jarvis Cocker who was selling Pimm's!). My band was headlining and we played an absolute stormer of a set (even if I do say so myself). As it was such a small and local affair all the bands thought nothing of leaving their gear backstage in the main tent overnight and we all proceeded to go and get pissed down the local pub. The next day I went back to the site to pick up my stuff and lo and behold, my bass was the only bit of kit that wasn't there. Cue lots of running around talking to the organisers and panicked phone calls to other band members who had already left. Unfortunately no-one had picked it up or put it somewhere safe and I finally had to conclude that, however unlikely it seemed, it'd been nicked. I told the local police and it is insured but damn I loved that bass. A custom spec Sandberg California PM4 Supreme with an imbuia top & headstock, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, mother-of-pearl block inlays and black hardware. I can remember each and every contour of the body, the response of each fret on the fretboard, the way the bass pot would be a little bit difficult to turn, each and every ding in the wood. Most of all I can remember how it sounded... Last night I actually cried over a plank of wood for heaven's sake! I've emailed this poster to every music shop and Cash Converters within 50 miles of the site so finger crossed. If you know anyone who lives around those areas then please ask them to keep an eye out for it. It's one of a kind! Many thanks.
5. I think it's a shame. As a 38 yr old bassist who only just got round to going pro a few years ago this scheme was invaluable to me. I bought my Yamaha SLB200 when I was just starting out and gigged off the debt. The instrument helped me get the gigs! Now I'm playing regularly in several pro bands and I probably wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the TIA. I for one will miss it.
6. Oh most definitely not, I need my back for gigs!
7. Thanks guys, it's a UK tour so all those options should be available. I'll probably go for the Orange Terror + 8x10 and the Aguilar DB751 + 8x10. Will be interesting to hear these rigs if the Ampeg isn't available.
8. I'm touring with an afrobeat orchestra over the next couple of weeks and I've been asked what my second and third choices would be for a rig if my first choice of an Ampeg SVT & 8x10 cab are not available. Now I've always used Ampegs for big gigs so don't really know what else is out there that can match them for power and that heavy bass tone. Any one got any ideas as to what I could ask for?
9. Thanks for the advice guys, I've got KiOgon making me up a single lead for a very reasonable price :-) Martin, it does need a 12V but I've tried plugging it into a PSA-240 9V and it worked. The light was a bit dim but other than that it seemed OK. Plus I got the idea from BossArea which seems to be populated by weirdly obssessive Boss freaks so hopefully they know what they're talking about :-) http://www.bossarea.com/other/aca.asp
10. I have a Boss TU-3 and an OC-2 that I want to daisy chain as the OC-2 needs an old ACA-240 power adapter which are quite hard to get hold of these days. I also thought it would be a neater and easier set up. However, it seems you can only get a minimum of 5 adaptors on those parallel cables (such as the Boss PCS-20A) and I only want 2! I can see how it makes sense to have 8 if you want to fill up your pedalboard but I just don't see myself buying anymore Boss pedals. Does anyone know anywhere I can get hold of something like this? Cheers!
11. Wow this has certainly turned into a heated debate! I like Macca as a bassist. One of the most musical ever I reckon. Apparently a bit of a c*** of a person though according to a source of mine...
12.
This just shows how good he was...not perfect but it breathes and swings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld-MFjV8_Yw...feature=related
Love that bassline but the drums really get on my tits! Deacon is definitely a bass god. Not showy, not flash but melodically and harmonically spot on. The fact that you don't notice how good his playing is only makes me respect the guy even more. He never sets out to prove a point he just does what's required for the track. That's the mark of a truly great bassist imho.
13. You rockers can go eff off! I was there, at the front. The guy is a GOD, the band were sh1t hot and the sound where I was standing was absolutely perfect! Plus Nathan Watts is a BEAST! It was probably the most amazing moment of my life!!
14.
Umm, I really fancied this when Marc sold it first time around. 2x12 cab is more tempting than a 1x15 too!
Yeah seriously this rig is a beast! Crystal clear but with loads of growl and character. I used it at a 400 person capacity venue (here's some footage from that gig - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpKXHmAVKNM - you can catch a few glimpses of the pretty lights on the front of the preamp/poweramp) and the soundman had to mute the bass through the system cos it was too loud! It's a nice feeling when you got so much headroom
15. Just put down a deposit on a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0. That was unexpected!
16.
I wish I had the money to buy this back..................its really FAB.
And I wish I had the money to keep it and get a separate acoustic set up! Btw I've just realised that the cab is 2x12 Hi Cab and not a 1x15. It's not easy to see behind the speaker cloth but it also shows you how little I've been using the thing!
17.
i had one for a few years - and had a few problems... the one i remember best was that the after about 6 months of use the headphone socket twisted somehow and made a connection which cut out the main speaker - a small but critical fault! I also recall a problem with one of the pots... had it for about 5 years before trying a pjb briefcase and part-exchanging it on the spot! just no comparison for sound... though to be fair i do have a problem with the mains connector on the pjb - there's always something isn't there!
Ha ha, yep! I heard that the PJBs sound great but they're not very powerful, is that true? Even though I'm playing mainly in an acoustic environment, I'm not sure they would cut the mustard. Especially when these gypsy jazzers start cranking up their AERs and pounding their guitars I've had a bit of rethink and I like the sound of those new fangled Ibanez Prometheans (despite the fact that buying an Ibanez amp goes against every natural instinct I have). Gonna try one out first with my SLB to see what it sounds like but I like the modular aspect to them. For small gigs I can just take the combo or for bigger gigs with a full band I can add an extension cab or even put the head through a larger lightweight cab. The possibilities are endless! Anyway thanks for the feedback guys, I'll let you know what the Promethean sounds like...
18. I've got someone who's interested in the pre-amp. It would be a shame to split this rig up but if anyone's interested in the power amp and/or the cab then I'll do it. The breakdown would be £700 for the pre, £580 for the amp and £320 for the cab.
19.
Highly recommended veiwing
Thanks Tino!
20. Esperanza Spalding. She inspires me in so many ways... not all legal... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8gynGy8pSg
21. Yeah I'll be playing with Trio Manouche (gypsy jazz) in the Pussy Parlure tent on Saturday night (not sure what time) and at around 2pm on Sunday. That's an answer to the first question btw
22. ***UPDATE*** Had major second thoughts about selling this rig, it's just too beautiful! Financial solvency is overrated anyway...
23. I was a massive Japan fan when I was young. Tin Drum is an epic album! When I heard about Mick Karn's illness I went and searched YouTube for some of their tracks. Hearing the bassline on Gentlemen Take Polaroids again really raised the hairs on the back of my neck! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpYoBXTnhyU...feature=related
24. Right this is a slightly complicated one! I've recently been offered a swap for my 6 year old Tech 21 Landmark 120 for a GK MB150E + carry bag which was bought in 1998 but has been regularly serviced and apparently looks and sounds "brand new". Obviously I need to even up the balance and the guy wants £300. My main gig is with a gypsy jazz trio with two guitarists going through AER acoustic combos and so a small, lightweight amp like this one would be ideal. However! I had a look on Harmony Central and the GK got really bad reviews and it's reliability score was 5.9 with several posts talking about cheap components destroying the amp. Has anyone had any experience/trouble with these?
