    It’s 3500 km each way.

After looking around for what seemed like ages an Aguilar SL112 popped up in our local market , so I immediately snagged it. It will be mostly for home use but I’ll take it downtown this weekend to hear it at room volume.
  3. There are fake Epiphones going around. It’s not just high end vintage that’s being copied these days.

    NCD Aguilar !

It’s still hard to believe someone would go on that kind of rampage in rural Nova Scotia. I’m a bit nerdy about gear and do enough gigs to justify buying good stuff. I use it. I usually just play mid sized bars and am frequently not in the PA so my stage sound is the room sound. I put it in the car , drive downtown , set it up play , and drive it home. So I like modern cab design that’s smaller , lighter , and can pack a good wallop. This cab checks all those boxes , but I’ll keep this mostly for home use , although I’m tempted to try it out downtown this weekend. I would love to hear it at room levels…
  5. As long as Kinga Glyk pops up I’m ok… I’ve got a bit of a bass crush on her. Great player !
  6. Once you get up around snare drum levels the sound does get more electric , but it’s still a different thing than an electric bass. I’ve used a mix of magnetic and piezo pickups , it becomes quite the rabbit hole.
  7. I love those later 4001 basses!

    NCD Aguilar !

I paid a market price. But there are simply very few around here. It is a gorgeous cab. So I’m happy. I’d like to pick up a ToneHammer head , but it will be just a home use head so I’ll be looking for a 350 or 500. I’m sure one will eventually come my way.
  9. I’ve had a hankering for an Aguilar SL112 for a while now. The catch is there are no local dealers stocking them, and as a result they’re pretty rare in these woods. I’ve been watching some classifieds in the States , but with the current state of the Cdn dollar you take a beating on the exchange and duties. And the perils of shipping a substantial box. Found one for sale in Winnipeg last week. Unfortunately that’s halfway across the country … it’s 3500km , a 37.5 hour drive. The seller was not willing to ship. So when one unexpectedly popped up as a local sale , I jumped. Paid a market price. Bought through a store but I know the owner and he cares about his gear. No dings , scrapes , or bruises. Beautiful condition. I plan to just use this at home , maybe drag it out for the odd rehearsal. I’ll probably eventually pick up a smaller Tonehammer head for it , but for the time being it sounds as good as I hoped it would. Beautiful cab. last night I was running a Darkglass e500 with it , I’ll be playing with some other amps over the next couple of days.
  10. The Hotone has a mini Aux In so you can plug in a tablet , and headphones … and practice without disturbing anybody. It’s a good practice rig , I don’t use it to drive speakers. I spend a lot of time using phones and the Hotone.
  11. Recently picked up a Phase 2 UniVox HiFlier and love it! not the reissue though
  12. The Tone Hammer was introduced around 2011, so they’ve been around for quite a while now. But that’s a crime that Korg are not properly supporting Aguilar. Aguilar customer service was once legend.
  13. I’ve been looking for one to keep as a living room amp. Probably with an SL112. Just for home , a 350 would be fine.
  14. Glen Cornick was a great player , he could construct a nice minor walk.
  15. Beauty!
  16. I do a weekly jam gig and often let others use my bass and rig. And it’s amazing how different it will sound from player to player. Now much of the time I’m playing a Dano Longhorn. It’s a cheap little tough as nails bass with twenty year old strings on it. And played through a good amp can sound perfect. This is a blues jam , and I love that classic old school thump. A surprising number of friends have bought Longhorns after playing mine. And in town at a blues gig in town you’re as likely to see a Longhorn as a Pbass.
  17. The late nights and early mornings can be brutal.
  18. Aguilar make great amps. They move air, the 500 would probably be all you need , but having headroom is always a plus. I’d lean towards the 700.
  19. Yes the second version, picked it up several months ago and it’s become a favourite. Light , sounds great. I like it.
  20. Pic Mostly Mexican instrumentals. A lot of fun. A trumpet playing band.

New project last night , brought two cabs although I certainly could have survived using just one. HDN cabs , Monique driving a Forte amp. Sounded warm and thick.
  22. First gig last night for a little project we’ve been working on for a while. Played my favourite room in town, a lovely little dive down by the waterfront. Lots of familiar faces came to cheer it on. Place was packed, band sounded great, sound was perfect. This is going to be fun.
  23. Try a modern lightweight single 12. They’ve come a long way.
