  1. The beauty of Baxandall eq!
  2. Welcome ! I do love a nice Ric! And those later 4001 basses are lovely things. Is the . 0047 cap still engaged? Much of that prog clank is in that capacitor. I wanted mine to be more thumpy so I bypassed it. But if are looking for that classic prog sound …

    Hi from Leeds

Welcome! As an amp nerd I’d say this is a wonderful time to be looking at amps.
  4. Welcome. I’m the first to say it’s not the gear , it’s your touch. And I seem to be constantly finding something else to invest in. So maybe it’s a bit of both.
  5. New drummer is great, and comes prepared for rehearsal. We postponed the first gig with him until December. We had a great rehearsal last night. Both trumpet players were there! Band is sounding really good. And the other 2Young 2Old will do the first gig with the new guitar player nine two weeks. I just got the set lists today , there will not be rehearsal , we’re simply expected to know the material. I’ll be camped out with the headphones this weekend.
  6. Why is it that some drummers have no concept of dynamics?
  7. Just got this “ he kind of fell off the map, moved his business but things obviously didnt work out. No one in our little bass community has heard from Tommy for long time.” Still waiting to hear from Jan.
  8. I know Jan used them at one point , but he’s away on the motorbike , I’ll ask when he’s back in Stockholm. edit … my other friend there simply said he stopped making them some years ago. I’ve asked if he knows anything more
  9. I’ve asked a couple of friends in Stockholm if they know what happened , however one is off on vacation biking around Eastern Europe.
  10. That TKS cab looks quite interesting. Never heard of the company. I gather they make serious cabs.
  11. Our old drummer is actually one of the better bass players in this region , and he snagged a gig he could not turn down. So we went looking for a new drummer. This is a project doing Mexican music. So the material is not the standard stuff. Beautiful material. You’ll never have a great band unless you have a great drummer. Did some auditions and one guy was it. Thankfully he signed up and we’re getting back up to speed. We have a December gig so there’s lots of time , we have a bunch of new material to add as well so I’m looking forward to the upcoming rehearsals. And in another project we do , one guitar player has returned to Boston to finish the degree at Berklee. We’ve got a replacement and he should be the perfect fit. We’ll simply get a list of tunes to learn and then have at’em. Next gig is mid next month. The rhythm section has been in the house band at the local blue dive’s Sunday jam for the last twenty years. And some young ones asked us to do the gig , we have a good number down now. It’s called 2Young 2Old and it’s the perfect name. So no full rehearsal but we’re expected to know the material , and be ready for anything. Should be fun.
  12. I once walked into a local pawnshop and there was an odd Gibson hanging over the cash register. The guitar looked Japanese , the logo was close , but not quite right. So I asked the owner what it was and he said. “A lesson , and it’s not for sale”
  13. I saw this Hotone on kijiji for a good price and picked it up. It was just an impulse. I had no idea I would wind up using it as a headphone amp with my IPad. It does that well.
  14. Elvis just covered songs.
  15. I WANT TO ROCK !!!
  16. I like cheap vintage short scale basses. I often use a UniVox for gigs these days. Don’t quite understand how that happened but I’m ok with it However I do use great amps and cabs. amp nerd
  17. Leo was a repair man and made things so they could be easily adjusted and fixed. This is evident in his amp design , and right down to his bridges. A masterpiece of form and function. He did not do fancy binding , carved tops , or elaborate inlays , but I would not say his work was inferior. His slab body , bolt on neck aesthetic was functional. There was a practical reason behind every design decision. I see genius in his simplicity.
  18. I’ve never seen one , and from the sounds of this , that’s a good thing.
  19. The LP DC Jr is said to be out of production , but is still on the website. It’s similar to this , and a fraction of the price. Gibson has been doing pricey limited custom runs for quite a while , most have been guitars , but I suppose it’s nice for them to acknowledge the bass section. These will probably quickly sell out, and the new owners will undoubtably be very happy with them. Well beyond my snack bracket. And I’m someone that loves Gibson short scale basses.
  20. My Visa card was recently hacked after buying something on Amazon. Visa contacted me , so I phoned the contact number on the back of my card. My card was immediately cancelled. There were a number of fraudulent charges from several countries. And it happened quickly. This after several years of hassle free transactions.
  21. And Rickenbacker were making a lovely electric upright around that time too.
  22. I still like four string basses.
  23. When I started playing in blues bands about forty five odd years ago I gave up any dreams of rock stardom. I thought success would simply wind up playing in local bars with some really nice players. I did not want travel. So I found success but wealth and stardom were not to happen. And I’m perfectly ok with the way things have turned out.
  24. Welcome! There seems to be a couple of just about everything here , and I do say that in a good way. I think most anybody can easily settle in and get comfy. I’ve been fascinated by gear that’s commonplace in Europe and the UK but has little presence in North America. So it’s wonderful to have some insight into other’s experience. I’ve found this site to be wonderful resource.
