  1. I think it isn't a carved joint. It looks more like he stained the wood to match the mahagony body.
  2. Well, the Kania is gone already. It was a wonderful instrument to play. So nice, that it made me long for a 5str fretless. Had it up for trade in the Netherlands and got some offers. Most of them where very expensive basses that needed me to dig up my savings. But this guy offered me his Martin Keith for my Kania and my 12 string guitar. I've never spend so much for one instrument. But the moment I had this Martin Keith bass in my hands it felt so very nice and there was so much resonance in its body and it was so easy to play. I'm a guitarist, so it helps me a lot when a bass is easy to play. And it doesn't way that much, so it's pretty easy on the shoulders. I contacted mr Keith for some info, and here is what he could tell me (nice guy he is); Built as an exhibit instrument for NAMM in 2011. Maple neck with katalox (royal mexican ebony) fretboard, 34.5 inch (876mm) scale. Mahogany body with spalted maple top. (Body thickness 52mm. His current basses are 42mm thick.) Citron HB pickup with passive volume control. Polyester finish. So I'm very enthousiastic exploring fretless bass more and more. Love that sound. I'm not sure what strings it has at the moment. Feels a bit like half rounds.
  3. Well, my daughter is having her swimming lessons now. So I have some doing nothing time to spend at the swimming pool. So I'm glad to announce my HNBD! I didn't really need a new bass. But I thoght this to be a beautiful creation by mr Krysztov Kania. Built in the nineties. Teaser picture is from the original add. More pics to follow tomorrow. It is very light and has one of the thinnest necks I've ever played. Nice balance. Pickup is a Delano with a 3 way switch for some serie/coil split/parallel sounds I guess. Strung with flatwounds. I don't have a clue about the woods. I'll have to contact the builder, maybe he remembers. Fretlines and side dots help me a lot to find my notes (or avoid them). Usually I am not to fond of thin necks, neither on guitar nor on bass. But I think I really can get used to this. It plays light as a feather. It has a nice balance, comfortable body and super high neck acces. Slapping is awkward though with such little space between pickup and fretboard. But I am bad at slapping bass, so it doesn't really bother me. I haven't really gave it a proper sound test, as I only have a 1 watt solid state guitar amp at the moment. Sounds very growly in a nice way through it. I don't think it sounds as deep as my Stagg EUB. The EUB has longer sustain as well. But I do think it is very nice to have a normal bass at my side as well. More pics will follow tomorrow.
  4. Seems I signed up in 2021 but never gave a proper introduction. Well here goes. My first post I guess in 2 years. One of my team mates from the musical team said to me: bassists are very supportive people. I took the compliment and told her I was a guitar player in disguise. This year I started playing bass again as one of the ministry teams in church needed a bass player (I dare say that every team needs the bass). Some twenty years ago I played bass with a choir for a couple of years. I picked up a cheap Adonis bass that was covered with Lego blocks and was fully enjoying the bass again. I shifted to an Epiphone EB3, but couldn't stand the neck dive. In spring I found a really cheap Stagg EUB that was salvaged from a pub wall by someone. It was cheap enough to encourage me to try playing the EUB. And I must say I'm enjoying the heck out of it playing this thing. At home and in church it goes into the DI straight to the mixing console. At home I use an Ibanez BE10 for some EQ'ing. At the moment I use an Audio Kitchen TSTDI. But it will be on holidays at CharlieTuna's place for a while. I don't really use effects with bass. But I do tend to buy effects that could work out with both bass and guitar. At the moment my gear is more guitar orientated though (Williams Audio MK1-Strymon Deco v2-Subdecay Echo Box-Boss CH1-Audio Kitchen TST DI). If in need of an amp I have a ZT Lunchbox acoustic and a Harry Kolbe Single Twelve for some more volume. Other gear are an electric twelve string (Stoney Creek Obsidian), old swedish acoustic archtop, Tom Barth Tommyhawk acoustic travel guitar and a G Sharp electric travel guitar. I got my wife and two daughters at home. And a bunch of collegues at work. I take effort in being a work planner at a construction company. Well, sometimes it works out, sometimes everyone seems to live outside their schedules. Most probably I won't be a very very active posting member (busy family man). But I find this site a very informative source for everything bass. So I hope to be able to contribute some sensible things. Best to you all and God bless! Greetings from the Netherlands.
