I wonder if people who've only heard the piece on the album Thonk think it's anything more than a really good tune? Or if anyone has tried to play the piece on a standard fretless bass?

It puts me in mind of the story about Adrian Belew trying (and succeeding) to recreate Robert Fripp's solos from Heroes when the pieces in question had been assembled by Eno from multiple takes and had never originally been played as a continuous piece.

    interesting question.

This is a good effort but i think the hyperbass generates more certainly performance wise but also musically in terms of the musicality of the tuning shifts and the open strings etc.

i dont really wonder at all. it is worth it. I appreciate microwave cooking as much as anyone, but also I like slow cook stuff that requires patience and preparation. Takes all sorts. (didn't think you were slagging it off, BTW so I am not having a go, just registering that 7 mins tuning for this aint such a big deal)

  3. As mentioned, there's so many angles on this. For example, there's a 3 leaf audio PWNZOR for sale on here - it's a good pedal for enhancing/fattening tone, organic feel etc. Bongo describes it as the opposite of the MXR, which is more transparent, and better at limiting, so suits slap better. So that gives you one perspective. You mention control. In this regard I would refer you to FEA labs and Empress, which strike me as very near the top of the pedal comp league table. Metering is pretty important if you are concerned about control. That takes you on to rack mounted, where you get as much control as you could want.

  4. Hugh responded to my plea on here. I sent him the fuzz pedal and he made adjustments in line with my needs. No charge. Fantastic service, brilliant pedal, real gent. I would thoroughly recommend people check out Myrtle Pedals.

not on facebook mate, assuming that's the site? I need to "borrow" the missus's account - to be recommended?

  6. Here's Nathan taking us through his NAMM board, which I notice has a couple of Source Audio 2nd gen pedals on it and their new expression pedal.

I love this guy, really do. Not always perfect but can come out with some great solo stuff and more melodic stuff:
